Position Overview
Bureau Veritas Marine, Inc. seeks an experienced and technically proficient Senior Marine Surveyor - Equipment and Materials Certifications to perform technical studies, surveys, and audits of marine equipment and materials at manufacturing premises. In this senior role, you will carry out assigned BVN services within the scope of your qualification, take technical decisions to attest compliance, collect necessary evidence of compliance, and sign and issue relevant Bureau Veritas documents including certificates and reports. You will work collaboratively with manufacturing partners and internal teams to ensure marine equipment and materials meet all design, construction, regulatory, and statutory requirements. Back-up BVN Manager, as needed, on BVN Manager responsibility as defined in the Bureau Veritas internal procedures and policies. This role is designed to evolve into a management position
Primary Responsibilities
Technical Verification & Compliance
Perform independent technical surveys and audits of marine equipment and materials at manufacturing premises and onboard oceangoing vessels in operation
Verify that marine equipment and materials conform to design and construction requirements, as well as applicable regulatory and statutory requirements
Survey marine equipment and materials for hull, machinery, automation, electrical systems, and safety systems to ensure compliance with ship classification rules and International Maritime Organization (IMO) Conventions
Verify manufacturer compliance with International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) standards
Take technical decisions to attest compliance with applicable regulations and standards
Request advice from BVN lead surveyors/managers on matters deemed beyond personal responsibilities or technical capabilities
Back-up BVN Manager, as needed, on BVN Manager responsibilities, as delegated
Documentation, Traceability & Records Management
Verify that manufacturers obtain and maintain Material Mill Certificates
Verify traceability of all components throughout the manufacturing process
Obtain and review previous test records, check markings, and verify production traceability
Review and assess manufacturer documents, records, and quality control procedures
Collect necessary evidence of compliance for certification purposes
Sign and issue relevant Bureau Veritas documents including certificates, reports, and attestations
Quality Assurance & Testing Oversight
Witness fabrication processes at random intervals to ensure quality compliance
Witness and verify electrical tests, proof/break load tests, hydrostatic tests, gas tests, etc… per established procedures and BV applicable Rules
Collaborate with manufacturing, materials, and engineering management teams to implement and reinforce quality controls and manufacturing processesReview and approve Manufacturing, Testing and Inspections (MTI) Plans and/or Quality Plans for specific jobs
For MODE I customers (Self-certifications), review MTI Plans and/or Quality Plans typically linked to MODE I audits
Reporting & Documentation
Produce comprehensive and technically accurate audit reports and survey documentation
Submit timely technical reports to Bureau Veritas management and clients
Close jobs including review of technical field reports and records
Issue final documents and certificates including:
Certificates of Inspection
Intermediate Survey Reports
MED/UK Module F and G Certificates

Technical Leadership & Support
Provide technical support to BVN activities, including coordination of field inspections and audits performed by non-exclusive surveyors and auditors
Interface with Headquarters (HO) and Local Project Offices (LPOs) as needed, typically related to specific job assignments
Provide technical support to customers related to job assignments, with support of BVN Manager as needed
Perform field surveyor/auditor monitoring and qualification surveys/audits
Monitor reports of full-time surveyors/auditors to ensure compliance and quality standards
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior surveyors and auditors as well as Subcontractors (BVN Non-Exclusive Surveyors)
Database & Systems Management
Maintain BVN/VPM Databases updated, including:
VPM/Company Recognition
Welding databases
Ensure accurate and timely data entry across all relevant systems
Communicate findings and recommendations to manufacturing and engineering teams
Utilize Bureau Veritas computer tools to perform assigned tasks:
Marine & Offshore Quality Documentation (MPGs)
BVN procedures and work instructions (PTEs and TTEs), especially PTE-004 and MPG-16
BVN local procedures
OneLogin Tools, MyLearning, SuccessFactors, SharePoint, MOVE
Guidelines for BVN IT Tools, Qualif database, VPM databases (VNB, MPA, Welding)
Chronos
Veristar Equipment
Travel, Field & Office Work
Conduct some travel throughout North America to inspect and audit marine equipment and materials at client manufacturing premises
Work independently in various manufacturing and marine environments, as needed
Provide support to customers and subcontractors on what concerns new and ongoing jobs related to Certifications of Equipment & Materials
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering
Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrated experience applying International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) rules and regulations, and IMO Conventions
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with industry standards, metallurgy, welding, and all different types of static and rotating equipment installed onboard ships and offshore units
Experience: Four or more years ’ experience in the marine business
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with ship classification society audits and surveys
Knowledge of maritime regulatory frameworks and flag state requirements
Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO 9001 or equivalent)
Strong communication skills in technical reporting
Experience with marine manufacturing processes and supply chain management
Proficiency with Bureau Veritas computer systems and databases
Experience with MED (Marine Equipment Directive) and UK Module certifications
Knowledge of marine materials science and metallurgy
Experience with welding procedures and certifications
Previous experience in a supervisory or mentoring capacity
