Job Summary: The Art Teacher is responsible for creating a flexible and nurturing classroom environment that fosters learning and personal growth for each student. This role involves designing and implementing a curriculum that supports the development of skills, attitudes, and knowledge in accordance with each student's individual abilities.
Essential Functions (May include, but not limited to):
- Provides engaging and developmentally appropriate art instruction to students, fostering creativity, skill-building, and artistic expression.
- Designs and implements hands-on art units that align with art standards and integrate with the core curriculum, ensuring that students meet educational goals.
- Works with other teachers to use art as a tool to interrelate and integrate with core subjects, supporting content and performance standards across different disciplines.
- Identifies and creates opportunities to display student artwork, celebrating their creativity and providing visibility within the school.
- Leads professional development sessions for staff on integrating art into the classroom.
- Plans and executes at least two culminating activities per school year to showcase student work, celebrate accomplishments, and reinforce learning.
- Invites other fine arts educations to participate in culminating activities and encourages interdisciplinary collaboration as appropriate.
- Supports the ongoing development of art performance standards and performance tasks and contributes to compiling exemplars and anchors for student assessments.
- Collects and maintains relevant statistics and documents as directed by administration to track student progress and program outcomes.
- Creates and implements thoughtful, structured lesson plans that are engaging, meaningful, and tailored to meet the needs of all students.
- Develops a classroom environment that fosters creativity, respect, and a love of learning by using a verity of effective teaching strategies.
- Establishes clear expectations for student achievement and behavior, motivating students to reach their full potential.
- Presents art concepts, techniques, and information in a way that ensures individual students can learn and apply their knowledge and skills effectively.
- Attends to the needs of the students, providing a supportive and encouraging environment they feel comfortable in.
- Develops and implements fair and consistent rules of behavior, using appropriate discipline strategies to ensure a respectful and productive classroom atmosphere.
- Regularly assesses and documents student progress in art, providing ongoing feedback to help students grow and succeed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Education: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate required. LX, LQ, or LZ endorsement required.
Skills: Ability to work cooperatively on a teaching team. Ability to communicate with students effectively through speaking, reading, and writing as appropriate. Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office, Internet, Email, and On-Line grading programs. Knowledge of common assessments and teaching methods.
