Robert Half Accounting Manager in Fitchburg, Massachusetts
Description
Our company is seeking an experienced and hands-on Accounting Manager for a contract assignment in Fitchburg, MA. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including a strong background in the higher education industry. This is a fully on-site role, and we’re looking for someone who thrives on face-to-face collaboration and is ready to hit the ground running.
Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting
Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes
Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant regulatory requirements, including those specific to higher education
Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls
Prepare budget reports and support forecasting and audit processes
Mentor and guide junior accounting staff
Act as a key liaison with external auditors and other stakeholders
Requirements
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years’ accounting experience; prior roles in or supporting higher education are strongly preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently
Dynamic, positive attitude with excellent communication skills
Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., Workday, NetSuite, QuickBooks, etc.) and strong Excel skills
Ability to work fully on-site in Fitchburg, MA (no hybrid or remote options)
