The Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) works in conjunction with the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) to assure that the mental health and behavioral needs of the individuals we serve.

Position Summary:

The Behavior Intervention Specialist will be a member of the interdisciplinary team serving individuals with co-occurring mental health and developmental disabilities. The position will be responsible for designing and implementing behavior support strategies for residents within the Enhanced Step Down Program, focusing on reducing challenging behaviors and fostering positive skills. This role involves conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and developing Positive Behavioral Support Plans (PBSP) based on evidence-based practices such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The specialist will collaborate with clinical teams and train staff to ensure that interventions are consistently applied and aligned with the residents' therapeutic goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) to identify triggers and patterns in residents' behaviors.• Develop and implement individualized Positive Behavioral Support Plans (PBSP) using evidence-based approaches such as ABA.• Provide ongoing training to staff on the implementation of behavioral strategies, ensuring consistency in practice and alignment with therapeutic goals.• Monitor the effectiveness of behavioral interventions, making data-driven adjustments to optimize outcomes for residents.• Collaborate with clinical teams, families, and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive, trauma-informed care.• Provides on-call coverage via cell phone. Weekend/holiday coverage rotates throughout the behavioral service department• Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with the individuals we serve. Provides supportive counseling as indicated. Documents for each of these sessions.• Prepares all required written reports and documentations in a timely manner. Maintains these reports and documents in an organized manner in the appropriate sections of the individuals’ records.• Performs all job responsibilities in full compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Adheres to the agency’s corporate compliance program, including the code of business conduct, the NYS and federal false claims acts, whistleblower protections and mandatory reporting. • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Education: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, or Master’s level mental health professional under the supervision of a licensed mental health professional. Psychologist/ABA Certified preferred• Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in providing behavioral interventions for individuals with I/DD and co-occurring mental health conditions. Documented training in assessment techniques and behavior support development.• Skills: Proficiency in conducting FBAs, developing PBSPs, and implementing evidence-based behavioral interventions. Strong training and collaboration skills.

License:• Valid New York State Driver’s License.• Must meet agency requirements for insurability

Location: Multiple, including but not limited to, CPU Hudson Valley Office, Mahopac Transitional Residence, and community based locations, including hospital referral sites throughout the Hudson Valley .
