Job Title: Senior Project Architect / Project Manager
Job Description
Project Architect / Project Manager role leads small- to medium-scale healthcare projects, with a strong focus on renovations and infrastructure upgrades in active, occupied medical facilities. Typical projects include imaging suites, operating rooms and procedural areas, pharmacies, sterile processing departments, clinic renovations, and phased work within hospitals and ambulatory care centers. You will guide multidisciplinary teams from early programming through construction closeout, ensuring technically sound, compliant, and constructible solutions while building strong client relationships and supporting the growth of the healthcare architecture practice.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for healthcare clients, including health systems, facilities teams, engineers, and clinical stakeholders throughout the life of each project.
Support healthcare leadership in developing project scopes, fees, staffing plans, and schedules for proposals and active projects.
Negotiate and manage contracts with clients and subconsultants to align expectations, deliverables, and budgets.
Lead projects from initial planning and programming through design, construction, and closeout, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met.
Lead healthcare programming and early planning efforts with a focus on clinical workflow, operational continuity, and phased implementation in occupied facilities.
Collaborate with architectural staff through conceptual design, schematic design, and design development phases to deliver cohesive and functional solutions.
Coordinate closely with in-house engineering disciplines to integrate architectural design with building systems, medical equipment, and infrastructure constraints.
Manage coordination with external consultants, including medical equipment planners, specialty vendors, and commissioning agents, to ensure complete and coordinated documents.
Guide project teams through healthcare regulations and approval processes, including state agency reviews and coordination with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, FGI Guidelines, owner standards, and facility front-end specifications and project criteria in collaboration with clients and internal teams.
Oversee construction administration activities, including review and response to RFIs, submittals, and change requests, as well as conducting field observations and managing project closeout.
Manage projects within occupied healthcare environments, addressing infection control requirements, interim life safety measures, and shutdown coordination.
Apply a solutions-focused approach to resolve field issues in collaboration with contractors, clients, and internal teams, maintaining project momentum and quality.
Supervise and mentor architectural staff assigned to healthcare projects, providing technical guidance and professional development support.
Foster collaboration across architecture, engineering, and construction teams to support an integrated, design-oriented project approach.
Serve as Project Manager and/or Project Architect for ongoing and as-needed healthcare client work, ensuring consistent client service and project delivery.
Use project planning and budgeting software to track project performance, staffing, and financial metrics.
Prepare and review construction documents, technical drawings, and specifications using tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, and related software.
Travel to project sites as needed to attend meetings, perform field observations, and support construction administration activities.
Essential Skills
Bachelor or Master of Architecture from an accredited university.
Approximately 7–8+ years of professional architecture experience, with a strong emphasis on healthcare architecture and renovation projects.
At least 3 years of experience working on healthcare projects, including occupied hospital and ambulatory care environments.
Demonstrated experience delivering projects in active, occupied hospital and ambulatory care settings, including phased work.
Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex renovation projects from planning through construction.
Working knowledge of healthcare codes, FGI Guidelines, and Michigan healthcare regulatory requirements.
Strong project management skills, including scope, schedule, fee, and contract management.
Experience with construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, change management, field observations, and project closeout.
Proficiency with Revit or strong familiarity with Revit for healthcare and architectural projects (Revit preferred).
Experience with construction documents, technical drawings, and design development.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with clients, consultants, and internal teams.
High level of organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work effectively in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams across architecture, engineering, and construction.
Mobility to work in an office setting, use standard office equipment, and travel to project sites as needed, with sufficient visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens and to communicate in person and over the phone (reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
15+ years of professional experience in architecture, with a strong emphasis on healthcare projects, is highly desirable.
Architectural licensure is preferred and considered a strong asset.
Experience with Deltek or similar project planning and budgeting software.
Familiarity with BSD SpecLink for specifications development and coordination.
Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, and other design and drafting tools used in architectural practice.
Background in technical drawing, construction documentation, and Revit Architecture workflows.
Experience as a registered architect or in a role requiring responsibility for technical quality and code compliance.
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor architectural staff in healthcare project settings.
Collaborative, adaptable mindset with the ability to thrive in fast-paced, deadline-driven project environments.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $150000.00/yr.
