The team you will be a part of

The Engineering team discovers, develops and evaluates new product ideas, enhancements, or strategic product extensions, and translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products. Leads, plans and tracks all phases of the product life cycle, from inception to introduction into the marketplace. Coordinates with various functions to ensure successful product development and implementation.

This role in summary

This role involves developing, executing, and leading Verification and Validation (V&V) activities across the product development lifecycle, from advanced planning through production, with a focus on ensuring product quality, performance, and adherence to requirements.

As a V&V Engineer, the individual is expected to work on Refrigerator product Verification Plan. He should take care of day-to-day activities and. He should be able to develop Verification Plans for component and product, understand failure modes of component and products.Proactively work with the Subsystems and product quality organizations to ensure that performance and reliability requirements protect us versus known failure modes.

Your responsibilities will include

1. V&V Strategy & Planning:

  • Create comprehensive verification plans for Major and Critical projects, defining the necessary tests for production readiness.

  • Develop and lead the execution of the V&V strategy and verification roadmap.

  • Determine and estimate the required V&V and Lab Operations resources and timing for project portfolios during the P0-P2 planning cycle.

  • Partner with the V&V Strategist to transition test methods from Advanced Development (ADP) to Production Development (PD - CV) phase.

2. Execution and Methodology:

  • Lead the V&V approval process and ensure timely completion of projects (minor/major).

  • Drive the use of Virtual Product Development (VPD) and other verification methods to reduce physical testing.

  • Leverage supplier labs for component verification testing where appropriate.

  • Act as a key player in the TRS (Technical Requirements Specification) and FPS (Functional Performance Specification) processes by utilizing verification testing and applying key tools and models for a 'TRS Ready' strategy during project scoping.

  • Assess V&V methodologies for robustness, considering design and use case variations.

  • Utilize critical thought and physics-based analysis to help determine alternate design concepts for product improvement or risk reduction.

  • Execute core V&V activities for Planning and Advanced Development projects.

  • Utilize FMEAs (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to identify functional requirements, failure modes, and detection methods.

  • Identify and support the closure of gaps in existing performance test methods during project execution.

3. Project Execution and Rigor:

  • Align validation and verification plans with System Integrator and subsystem teams according to the project timeline, and proactively manage execution.

  • Drive V&V Maturity, Safety Maturity, and Design Verification (DV-GPA) discipline and rigor (completing DV GPA by M6).

  • Provide timely progress status of the V&V plan at all Whirlpool Product Development (WPD) integration events.

  • Ensure accuracy and clarity of lab requests and reports.

  • Identify product configurations and unit quantities required for build planning and physical testing, and witness tests as appropriate.

  • Support design reviews with active participation.

  • Partner with System Integrators to provide risk assessments, find root causes of issues, and propose alternative solutions proactively.

  • Provide traceable and complete approval documentation with appropriate context for project phases.

  • Ensure clearly defined requirements are validated or verified.

  • Disposition all non-compliant test results and identify exceptions that pose risks to product leadership or manufacturing.

  • Adhere to the Whirlpool product approval process and ensure global consistency.

  • Leverage safety audits to identify, evaluate, and close potential safety hazards.

4. Continuous Improvement & Support:

  • Support continuous improvement of consumer satisfaction through internal validation correlations identified by Quality Function Deployment (QFD) assessments.

  • Support Manufacturing Quality Leads to ensure process conformance and compliance.

  • Support requests for post-launch V&V needs as required

Minimum requirements

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • V&V strategies and plans for multiple projects with detailed risk mitigation actions.

  • Comprehensive reports on failure analysis and validation status across all phases of development.

  • Test plans aligned with the platform team, executable according to WPD project timelines.

  • Continuous improvement activities for future projects

  • SKU x country Whirlpool product approval documentation ensuring validation and verification of performance, codes, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Education: B.E / M.E - Mechanical

Certifications (Preferred): Opex Black Belt ( Six Sigma) Certified AND / OR Design For Reliability

Experience: Minimum 8+ years in Engineering and Technical product development, with a preference for diverse experience across different areas.

Technical:

  • Understanding and ability to perform theoretical and practical engineering analysis.

  • Experience with "Test to Fail" and "Test to Pass" experimentation.

  • Good technical awareness and clarity regarding basic engineering concepts.

  • Ability to prepare comprehensive Test Reports.

  • Effective discussion with the project team for planning testing activities.

  • Highly Preferred: Knowledge and/or experience in refrigeration, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.

MANAGERIAL

Process & Organizational Proficiency:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in GPO core competencies per WeLearn role guidelines (APQP, DFS, Systems Engineering, Project Management, Whirlpool Product Development - WPD).

  • Proven complexity and tactical execution capability.

  • Category-specific product knowledge is preferred.

Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Provide direction and leadership to other engineers, ensuring their knowledge and input are incorporated into structured problem-solving.

  • Effective collaboration and partnership with cross-functional teams.

  • Maintain a Continuous Improvement mindset: both 'doing the work' and 'improving the work'.

  • Mentor and actively share knowledge with engineers within the area and across cross-functional teams.
