The Corrections Transitions Program Coordinator promotes change in incarcerated people by directing and coordinating Orientation and Reentry programming at Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF)-Faribault, linking community services, case management, release planners, incarcerated individuals, and other stakeholders together in this effort. Responsibilities include:

  • Plan and implement the delivery of Orientation and Reentry programming to provide a complete continuum of services to incarcerated individuals.

  • Provide direct daily supervision to incarcerated individuals assigned as transition tutors, and other incarcerated individuals utilizing transition services during the normal workday.

  • Provide ongoing day-to-day reentry counseling and services to the incarcerated population. Provide liaison and referral services for the Department of Corrections (DOC), community agencies, and other stakeholders.

  • Assist incarcerated individuals with acquiring personal identification documents.

  • Serve as an information agent and access point for community organizations and government agencies involved in incarcerated individuals' transition back into the community.

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experience sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

  • Two (2) years of experience supervising correctional clients in a secured or correctional environment (Note: A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Psychology, Sociology or related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience) ; OR

  • One (1) year of case management or counseling experience in a secured or correctional environment; OR

  • One (1) year of experience delivering transition and/or re-entry programs for correctional clients.

Applicants who meet the experience requirements listed above will be further assessed on the following:

  • Skills in teaching or conducting classroom training including experience in designing and delivering oral presentations in a variety of settings.

  • Problem solving skills sufficient to establish transition or reintegration program direction, identify potential problems and issues, and involve appropriate internal and external resources to accomplish goals, and to assist individuals in meeting goals for release preparation and developing personal skills and resources.

  • Written and oral communication skills sufficient to maintain effective lines of communication with corrections staff and community resources/programs sufficient to prepare and deliver classroom presentations and one-on-one pre-release counseling services to individuals in a variety of pre-release topics in job search, housing, education, family reunification, parenting, personal finance and money management, mental and physical health, cultural awareness, etc.

  • Human relation skills sufficient to develop collaborative relationships with a variety of public, private, and community organizations.

  • Organizational skills sufficient to coordinate and supervise special transition events such as the annual transition fairs and mock job fairs, family law clinics, child support workshops, etc.

  • Experience and skills in using word processing and database software.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Psychology, Sociology or related field.

  • Experience as a career counselor, vocational counselor, or academic advisor.

  • Experience delivering cognitive, psycho-educational or educational groups/classes to correctional clients.

  • Experience using virtual workspaces (such as Teams, Zoom, Webex, etc.) for delivering content at meetings or presentations.

Physical Requirements

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
