The Surveyor / Field Engineer will use total station and augmented reality technologies to establish and maintain the primary control network on a major construction project, ensuring all works are set out and installed accurately in line with the BIM model. This role combines field surveying, data processing, and coordination with the construction team to de-risk incorrect installations and support high-quality project delivery.
Responsibilities
Establish and maintain the primary control network on site using a total station or robotic station for the duration of the project.
Conduct precise setting out activities to support construction staking and ensure accurate placement of works.
Carry out regular site inspections using the Atom augmented reality headset to verify that installations align with the BIM model.
Produce clear daily reports and deliverables based on inspection findings, highlighting any issues, risks, or non-conformances.
Process and review all acquired survey data to confirm accuracy, reliability, and consistency with project requirements.
Attend coordination meetings with the contractor to plan daily activities and align surveying tasks with construction operations.
Collaborate with the contractor to develop a weekly lookahead of inspections in line with the construction programme to minimise the risk of incorrect installations.
Obtain and prepare the latest approved Revit models and export them into HoloSite for use in field inspections and augmented reality workflows.
Use Microsoft Word and Excel to document, organise, and present survey data, reports, and inspection outcomes.
Work independently on site alongside the installation team, providing timely surveying support and technical guidance as needed.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 2 years of surveying or construction experience, including work in construction staking or similar field-based roles.
Proven ability to independently operate a total station or robotic station, such as Leica, Trimble, or Topcon equipment, to establish and maintain a control network.
Prior construction experience with construction staking and site-based survey operations.
Surveying qualification related to land surveying, geodetic, geospatial, geomatics, or a closely related discipline.
Ability to process, review, and validate survey data for accuracy and reliability.
Confidence in using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, for reporting and data management.
Full driving license enabling regular travel to and from site locations.
Ability to work independently on site while collaborating effectively with the installation and contractor teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge and working experience of Revit and BIM processes, which is beneficial but not essential.
Familiarity with augmented reality tools such as the Atom headset and platforms like HoloSite, or a strong willingness to learn.
Experience coordinating with contractors and construction teams to plan daily and weekly survey activities.
Strong communication skills to present findings clearly in meetings and written reports.
Organisational skills to manage multiple inspections, data sets, and reporting deadlines.
Willingness to relocate or travel for project assignments, with potential support for flights and accommodation when relocating.
Work Environment
This role is primarily site-based and involves working closely with construction teams on active project locations in London or Florida, with full on-site training provided. You will regularly use total stations or robotic stations (Leica, Trimble, Topcon), augmented reality headsets such as the Atom, and digital tools including Revit, BIM models, HoloSite, and Microsoft Office. The position offers a dynamic environment where you move between field surveying, inspections, and coordination meetings. Typical work follows the construction programme, and you will plan activities in line with daily and weekly site operations. The employer offers healthcare benefits covering medical, dental, and vision, along with 25 days of annual vacation or PTO plus public holidays. If relocation is required, flights and accommodation may be covered. After approximately one year on the initial project, there is an opportunity to relocate elsewhere in the US or continue in Omaha as new projects are expected.
