Job Title: Construction Laborer

Job Description

Join a field crew that installs underground piping systems for storm and sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. In this role, you support project leaders and forepersons with trench preparation, pipe placement, and joint sealing, while learning the full pipe-laying trade on active construction sites.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project managers and forepersons with all phases of pipe installation for storm and sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains.

  • Help grade and prepare trenches to specified depths and slopes before pipe installation.

  • Position pipe sections accurately in trenches to ensure proper alignment and flow.

  • Seal pipe joints securely to prevent leaks and ensure long-term system integrity.

  • Support the crew with general construction and labor tasks as directed.

  • Work around heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, backhoes, and skid steers, following directions and maintaining safe distances.

  • Prepare materials and equipment in the yard before heading to the jobsite each day.

  • Follow all safety protocols and site rules consistently throughout each shift.

  • Adapt to changing site conditions, weather, and schedule delays while maintaining productivity.

  • Demonstrate care and quality in all assigned tasks and assist with cleanup and site organization.

Essential Skills

  • General construction or labor experience, or strong interest in learning the pipe-laying trade.

  • Dependable work habits with a willingness to learn and take direction.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work, including lifting, bending, and working in trenches.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to understand instructions and document basic information.

  • Commitment to follow safety protocols and procedures at all times.

  • Adaptability to changes in work environment, including weather, delays, and variable overtime hours.

  • Attention to detail and focus on the quality of one’s own work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity working around heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, backhoes, and skid steers.

  • Interest in developing skills in pipe laying for storm and sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a crew on active construction sites.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fargo, ND.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
