The Opportunity
We are actively seeking a production fabricator for the manufacturing floor to Fabricate, lay out, position, align, and fit parts of structural metal products.
Responsibilities
Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using fixtures, welding torches, and hand tools.
Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
Tack-weld fitted parts together.
Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to be processed in order to ensure that specifications are met.
Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
Locate and mark work piece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.
Move parts into position, manually or by using hoists or cranes.
Set up and operate fabricating machines such as brakes, rollers, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components.
Hammer, chip, and grind work pieces in order to cut, bend, and straighten metal. Hammer out bulges or bends in metal work pieces.
Design and construct templates and fixtures, using hand tools.
Straighten warped or bent parts, using sledges, hand torches, straightening presses.
Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to work pieces, using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone.
Set up face blocks, jigs, and fixtures.
Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and plasma torches.
Direct welders to build up low spots or short pieces with weld.
Lift or move materials and finished products, using cranes and fork trucks.
Erect ladders and scaffolding to fit together large assemblies.
Cut metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions and contour and bevel as specified by blueprints, layouts, work orders and templates, using powered saws, shears or flame tables.
Operate metal shaping, straightening and bending machines such as brakes and shears.
Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
Establish work procedures for fabricating new structural products, using a variety of metal working machines.
Qualifications
High School Diploma
One to two years related experience preferred.
Valid Driver’s License
Computer literate
Microsoft Office
