Job Title: Assembly Operator IV
Location: Fairview, NC 28730
Shift: 2nd Shift | Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Pay Rate: $28.05/hour ($25.50 base + 10% shift differential)
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Assembly Operator IV to support advanced fiber optic manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for the assembly, termination, and testing of optical connectors and cable assemblies, as well as supporting new product introduction (NPI) and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and capable of working both independently and within a team environment. This position requires strong manual dexterity, a commitment to quality, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced, production-driven setting.
Key Responsibilities
Perform fiber optic cable assembly, termination, polishing, and testing
Assemble and package fiber optic connector components
Set up and operate test stations for cable assemblies
Conduct IL/RL testing and visual inspections of single- and multi-fiber assemblies
Operate fiber routing and coating equipment, and perform over-molding processes as needed
Support prototype builds, test builds, and pre-release NPI activities
Measure components using calipers, gauges, and other precision instruments
Complete operational documentation to ensure product traceability
Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs
Follow proper cleaning methods and contamination control procedures for optical assemblies
Perform EFG and IPC (workmanship) inspections
Safely operate manufacturing equipment and identify/resolve operational issues
Suggest and support process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs
Inspect own work using quality standards, work instructions, and engineering drawings
Train and support new and existing team members on processes and procedures
Communicate effectively within a team to ensure production goals and customer satisfaction
Work with minimal supervision after training period while maintaining productivity and accuracy
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company policies
Support overtime and off-shift work as needed to meet production goals
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Minimum 2+ years of manufacturing experience , including 1+ year in fiber optic manufacturing (required)
Strong hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills for intricate assembly work
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and job routers
Working knowledge of hand tools preferred
Experience working in a cleanroom environment with required PPE
Experience using electronic test equipment preferred, including:
Optical Power Meters
Oscilloscopes
Digital Multimeters (DMM)
Variable Power Supplies
Basic Excel skills for data tracking and analysis preferred
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
Effective time management and ability to manage multiple priorities
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills
Commitment to safety and continuous improvement
Some post-secondary technical coursework preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs
Ability to operate machinery and move between workstations
Ability to work in a cleanroom environment wearing required PPE (gowns, gloves, safety glasses, etc.)
Ability to remain active and engaged throughout the shift
