UPMC Maintenance Mechanic in Everett, Pennsylvania

UPMC Bedford is looking for a full time Maintenance Mechanic to work 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Will have every 3rd weekend off.

Responsibilities:

  • Transport System equipment and supplies.

  • Demonstrate cost consciousness through efficient use of time, materials, staff, equipment, supplies, and available resources.

  • Move furniture and equipment using proper equipment and assistance to meet needs of requesting party.

  • Perform technical services to building systems including but not limited to HVAC, plumbing and complex electrical systems.

  • Perform carpentry activities as they relate to either repair, renovation or construction.

  • Maintain, repair, install and perform preventive maintenance on numerous type of miscellaneous equipment.

  • Perform job functions with consideration to thoroughness, accuracy and neatness, effect on patients and others; demonstration technical knowledge and competence.

  • Paint and installs/repairs vinyl wall covering. Repair wall surfaces prior to application of finishes.

  • Perform routine duties involving carpentry, plumbing, and electrical skills by determining work to be done, obtaining necessary supplies and equipment, and performing duties in a safe skillful manner without jeopardizing own safety or that of others.

  • Perform testing, calibration, preventive maintenance and repair equipment included in the equipment management inventory according to established policies and procedures.

  • Perform installation, repair, and preventive maintenance on the electrical distribution system, lighting system, electrically operated equipment, air condition, and refrigeration equipment, heating system and associated equipment, mechanical systems and equipment.

  • Operate all components of the utility systems, knows location and function of control and shutoff, and knows all utility system failure procedures.

  • Contact vendors for purchases and installations.

  • Report identifiable hazards/unsafe conditions relating to equipment, the building and grounds of the hospital.

  • Perform maintenance to the ground including snow/ice removal during the winter season.

  • Consult with and keep department manager informed of activities, needs and problems associated with primary work assignments.

  • Perform duties in compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, environmental and infection control, and with codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.

  • Perform security functions when required.

  • Perform plumbing installation, repair and preventive maintenance involving the domestic water and waste systems as well as the medical gas and vacuum systems.

  • Operate cars, light trucks and maintenance equipment.

Education & Training:

  • Graduate of two year trade or technical school with courses in one or more trades (heating, plumbing, electricity, electronics, refrigeration) or equivalent demonstrated working experience.

Work Experience:

  • 5 years experience in one or more trades (heating, plumbing, electricity, electronics, refrigeration).

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  • Standing and walking throughout the day. Stoops, climbs, crouches, bends when making inspections, repairs and adjustments.

  • Lifts and carries tools, equipment and materials weighing up to 100 pounds maximum.

  • Occasional hazards associated with mechanical and electrical equipment.

Special Requirements:

  • Able to read blueprints and specifications and to visualize installation.

  • Able to make calculations for installations and repair of equipment.

  • Available to plow snow or otherwise report for emergencies.

  • Capable of communicating with daily contacts in courteous manner.

  • Must have valid PA driver's license.

  • Ability to receive, comprehend, and carry out instructions; ability to work safely with equipment, supplies, and materials; ability to comply with attendance requirements: ability to comply with Personnel policies. Ability to perform as team player. Equipment: Electrical tools, blueprints, motor vehicles, power tools, hand tools, etc. May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Driver's License

  • Act 34 with renewal
