STATE EMPLOYMENT SERVICES TEAM R&D Electrical Engineer (Mid-Career) in EVANSTON, Wyoming

Black Mesa Advanced Fission specializes in research and development of Fission Generators (otherwise known as Expeditionary/Tactically Mobile Microreactors). BMAF is under contract to the U.S. Army to develop and test the prototype for a sub-100kWe Fission Generator...a very small-scale electrical generation system using nuclear energy technology (nano-scale reactor).
Position Overview: (Sole U.S. Citizenship Required)
This position offers hands-on experience working alongside experienced professionals on real-world engineering projects. You will contribute to ongoing initiatives, develop technical and analytical analysis, and participate in a collaborative work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, fabrication, analysis, and testing of systems and components
- Integrate mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies
- Manage independent projects as directed by lead or manager
- Prepare technical schematics, PCB layouts, wiring diagrams, quality control and assurance, reports and documentation
- Engage resources from additional disciplines to complete mechanical/electro-mechanical designs
- Specify, collect, and analyze data for design considerations, product refinement, and processes
- Utilize engineering tools (EDA software, circuit simulation, PCB design, power electronics analysis) to ensure designs meet requirements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product or process development
- Lead and participate in project/design reviews and technical discussions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's (+5 yrs experience) or Master's (+3 yrs experience) degree in Electrical Engineering
- Previous small team leadership experience is preferred
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication (verbal and written) skills
- Proficient in engineering software/tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad, LTSpice, MATLAB, Python, Excel, etc.).
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
- PCB design tools (e.g., OrCAD, Eagle), oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, or modeling/simulation software
- Practical engineer (e.g. experience with soldering, PCB assembly, wiring harnesses, power electronics, instrumentation calibration, microcontroller programming, equipment repair/maintenance, etc.) Equally at home getting hands dirty in the shop as in designing
- Proven experience in electrical and electro-mechanical assemblies, and documentation
