Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer II
Evanston, WY (Full time, On-site) Reports To: COO or Sr. Engineer
About BMAF:
Black Mesa Advanced Fission specializes in research and development of Fission Generators (otherwise known as Expeditionary/Tactically Mobile Microreactors). BMAF is under contract to the U.S. Army to develop and test the prototype for a sub-100kWe Fission Generator which is a very small-scale system using nuclear energy technology (nano-scale reactor).
Position Overview: (U.S. Citizenship Required- No Dual Citizenship)
This position offers hands-on experience working alongside experienced professionals on real-world engineering projects. You will contribute to ongoing initiatives, develop technical and analytical analysis, and participate in a collaborative work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design for manufacturability (DFM), fabrication processes, analysis, and testing of systems or components
- Prepare R&D and manufacturing plans, work instructions, BOMs, reports, quality assurance, and documentation
- Develop manufacturing processes in conjunction with other engineering disciplines
- Perform iterative manufacturing runs and process optimization
- Support project teams with data collection (yield, cycle time, etc.), statistical analysis, and process improvements
- Perform research and apply manufacturing engineering principles (e.g., lean, Six Sigma) to solve practical production problems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product or process development
- Participate in project/design reviews and technical discussions
- Present findings and progress updates to supervisors or project leaders
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or graduate degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering 5 years experience desired
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication (verbal and written) skills
- Proficient in engineering software/tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, Nastran, MAT LAB, Python, Excel etc.). DESIRED EXPERIENCE: machining tools (e.g. Autodesk, FeatureCAM, etc.), coordinate measuring machines (CMM, PC-DMIS), or modelling/simulation software
- Practical engineer (e.g. experience with welding, manual machining, CNC machining (milling and turning), 3-D printing (plastic and metal), equipment repair/maintenance, programming, etc.)
