Smurfit Westrock Maintenance Technician in Eutaw, Alabama
Opportunity:
Join a safety\u2011focused maintenance team supporting reliable plant operations through hands\u2011on mechanical and electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and project work. This role plays a key part in minimizing downtime, supporting production needs, and ensuring equipment performance across the facility.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
Contributes to team effort by exhibiting strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
Working with OEMs and the Department Lead to maximize the use of technology to improved quality and drive productivity.
Work with Training and Maintenance to develop effective preventative maintence programs on gluer, packers, robotic palletizers, etc.
Must be a subject matter expert (SME) in all basic folds: straight-line, lock-bottom, and 6 corner boxes.
SME in the use of the Leary gluing and inspection system. Leary IQ experience preferred.
Able to oversee machine make-ready to set it up to run production. Directs make-ready, pre-fold, glue system, final fold, delivery, stacker, bar code reader, pack station and inspection system.
Able to train operators to become proficient in Gluer and Leary Make-Readies. Also able to train operators in basic troubleshooting.
Assist the Quality Manager in developing improved Quality Standards (Copy checks, gluing and gluing detections checks, case label, line clearance, case pack) are being met.
Monitors machine efficiencies & speeds to ensure production levels meet or exceed standards & make appropriate adjustments.
Assists with monitoring setting up bar code scanners, glue detectors, jam sensors kick and ejection systems.
Able to trouble shoot and adjust necessary to ensure quality and conformity of package material.
Effectively communicates with management.
Assists in training new employees and operators on machines.
Able to work under minimal supervision.
Performs other job duties as assigned.
What you need to succeed:
Mechanical repair work and services in a safe, proficient manner on plant equipment and facility
Preventative maintenance - perform lubrication and inspection schedules for equipment
Troubleshooting equipment - identifying problems and developing a course of action to resolve
Project work - new installations, modifications to existing equipment
Communication with production - understanding the problems and needs of production
Assembly and repairs of small parts
Experience maintaining PM schedules
Have a strong emphasis on safety and exhibit good safety practices
Must be a self-starter and able to work without supervision
Must be able to resolve breakdown issues in a timely manner to minimize production downtime
Must be able to maintain timelines for project schedules
Willingness to work a varied schedule (12-hours shifts), overtime, and weekends
Proficient in both electrical and mechanical knowledge and abilities
Being able to perform all maintenance activities related to his/her assigned action area, including planned tasks regarding predictive and preventive maintenance.
Actively troubleshooting maintenance issues and tasks to ensure proper and timely resolution
All other duties as assigned
Proficient in putting work orders in and accounting for all parts used.
