Duties & Responsibilities

A Machinist with fabrication abilities is responsible for producing precision parts and assemblies using machining and metal fabrication techniques. This role combines traditional machining skills with hands-on fabrication and assembly work.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Set up, fixturing/programming, and operating manual and CNC machines (lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders) to produce precision components
  2. Interpret and work from blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models
  3. Measure and inspect finished parts using precision instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure tolerances are met
  4. Select appropriate materials, tooling, and machining methods for each job

Fabrication Duties

  1. Perform metal fabrication tasks such as cutting, bending, welding, and assembling components
  2. Operate fabrication equipment including saws, press brakes, shears, and welding machines (MIG, TIG, or stick)
  3. Fit and assemble parts to create subassemblies or finished products
  4. Modify or repair existing parts and equipment as needed

Maintenance & Quality

  1. Maintain machinery and tools in proper working condition
  2. Troubleshoot machining or fabrication issues and make necessary adjustments
  3. Follow quality control standards and document production results
  4. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and workplace procedures

Collaboration & Workflow

  1. Work closely with managers or supervisors to meet specifications
  2. Assist in prototyping and custom fabrication projects
  3. Manage time effectively to meet production deadlines

Additional Skills

  1. Basic knowledge of CAD/CAM software
  2. Welding certifications or experience
  3. Ability to read geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  4. Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude
  5. Experience/understanding of G Code
