POSITION: NURSING ASSISTANT TRAINEEDEPARTMENT: NursingJOB SUMMARY: The nursing assistant trainee attends classroom and clinical instruction according to the Nursing Assistant Training Program guidelines. The Nursing Assistant Trainee provides routine daily resident care and services in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan as assigned and directed by the Training Program Instructor. The trainee only performs tasks for which he/she has been trained and that are assigned by the Program Instructor. Task responsibility advances according to completion of segments of training within the 100-hour course.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:•Attends classroom and clinical instruction as scheduled.•Provides direct resident care as assigned by the Training Program Instructor in accordance with the plan of care while ensuring the resident’s privacy and dignity are preserved. Tasks may include but are not limited to:oBathing residents (bedbath, tub, shower)oFeeding residentsoToileting residents (bedpan, urinal, bedside commode, bathroom)oGiving perineal careoPerforming grooming activities (hair care, nail care, foot care)oShampooing residents’ hairoProviding oral hygiene and denture careoMeasuring intake and outputoCollecting urine and stool specimensoTransferring residents from bed, chair, wheelchairoAssisting residents with use of walkers, wheelchairs, canesoPositioning residents in chairs, beds, wheelchairs, Geri chairsoTurning and changing position of residentsoAssisting with lifting residents/lift equipmentoPerforming range of motion exercises (active and passive)oMaking occupied and unoccupied beds oWeighing residentsoTaking vital signsoPerforming post mortem careoPracticing standard precautions and special isolation techniques (gown and glove use, double bagging, disposal of contaminated linens and trash)•Practices effective communication techniques with residents, visitors, and coworkers.•Protects residents from complications and injuries.•Respects residents’ rights (e.g., knocks on door before entering room, addresses resident by name, allows resident to make decisions).•Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges of residents.•Prepares rooms for new admissions.•Makes inventory of resident’s personal possessions and sends items to personal laundry to be labeled.•Transports and escorts residents.•Documents care as necessary.•Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of resident care plans.•Keeps equipment, supplies and resident furniture clean.•Keeps environment clean; reports housekeeping and maintenance needs.•Immediately reports to Training Program Instructor and/or Charge Nurse:oIncidences of suspected or potential resident abuseoResident incidents/accidents•Reports to Program Training Instructor and/or nurse manager/charge nurse:oChanges in residents’ statusoResidents’ response to careoEquipment and supply needsoRepair/maintenance needoSafety hazardsoUnusual occurrences or observationsoProblems with completion of assignment•Directs resident and visitor complaints to nurse manager/charge nurse.•Other duties as assigned in accordance with policies/procedures, rules, regulations, and guidelines to ensure adequate and appropriate nursing care to all residents.REQUIREMENTS:•Must be able to read and write and communicate clearly with others.•Must be able to pass physical examination upon employment.•Attends 100 hour training program as scheduled•Scheduled for Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation within 10 days of completion of Training Program. Trainees have three opportunities to pass the written/oral and clinical skills examination.SUPERVISION:•Receives direct supervision from Training Program Instructor and/or Charge Nurse•Receives indirect supervision from Unit Manager, Shift Supervisor, Assistant Director of Nursing and Director of Nursing.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:•Good physical health•Functions independently throughout the workday•Occasionally bends, stoops, kneels, lifts, climbs stairs•Reaches above or below shoulder height and carries supplies and equipment weighing approximately 25 pounds, lifting of up to 50 pounds•Communicate orally and in writing with residents, families, co-workers, and the public.

Minimum Salary: 15.50 Maximum Salary: 15.50 Salary Unit: Hourly
