Actalent Engineering Specialist in Eminence, Kentucky

Job Title: Maintenance and Engineering SpecialistJob Description

The Maintenance and Engineering Specialist will be responsible for executing engineering tasks and maintenance activities independently. This role involves evaluating alternative courses of action, making autonomous decisions, and serving as a subject matter expert in the implementation of maintenance programs, systems, and automation. The successful candidate will lead optimization of maintenance and facilities projects for equipment reliability and will demonstrate expertise in systematic troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment issues.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all PLC programming for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and automation to ensure equipment reliability.

  • Conduct effective and systematic equipment troubleshooting with the ability to direct maintenance technicians and contractors.

  • Lead the installation of industrial equipment such as machinery and automation systems.

  • Provide technical hands-on support to maintenance personnel for advanced troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and control issues and during planned outages.

  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules, identify and order necessary parts, and ensure all equipment meets regulatory standards.

  • Perform regular inspections and Gemba walks, make necessary repairs, and adapt or replace outdated technology or machines with newer models.

  • Install and upgrade system components to enhance system optimization and perform diagnostic tests to identify required adjustments.

  • Promote the effective use and accuracy of the departmental CMMS, including work orders, preventive maintenance, spare parts, and critical spares.

  • Participate in evaluating team skillsets and provide recommendations on internal or external training.

  • Analyze and determine the best course of action to identify improvement opportunities for installed equipment.

  • Develop cost-reduction ideas and initiatives to reduce operational costs.

  • Mentor and train maintenance technicians.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in automation, equipment installation, and equipment maintenance.

  • Strong supervisory skills and ability to direct maintenance teams and contractors.

  • Experience in PLC troubleshooting and programming.

  • Hands-on maintenance experience.

  • Ability to develop and implement maintenance schedules and manage spare parts ordering.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, AutoCAD, and robotics.

  • Mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and automation support expertise.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing or electro-mechanical engineering technology, or completion of trade school, or an associate degree in engineering technology or closely related discipline with at least 7 years of related work experience.

  • Prior supervisory or lead technician experience preferred.

  • Experience in PLC and robotic programming.

Work Environment

The position requires spending 90% of the time on the floor and 10% on desk work within a manufacturing environment in a country town. The standard workweek consists of 50 hours, with the person starting after 45 hours per week. On-call status rotates to ensure shared responsibility. The work environment is relaxed and fun, with a close-knit, family-oriented atmosphere where colleagues often joke around. The team is primarily composed of individuals from small-town, country backgrounds.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Eminence, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
