Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Project Estimator to join our underground utility construction team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate project cost estimates, analyzing project plans and specifications, and collaborating closely with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams. Your expertise will help ensure projects are competitively priced while maintaining profitability and quality standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to diverse underground utility and drilling construction projects, from initial bidding through project execution, fostering a culture of precision and proactive planning.

Responsibilities

1. Review and interpret underground utility construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents to develop comprehensive estimates.
2. Utilize estimating software to prepare detailed cost proposals.
3. Conduct site visits to gather accurate data on existing conditions and scope of work.
4. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to refine project scope, pricing strategies, and value engineering options.
5. Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing while ensuring quality standards are met.
6. Prepare detailed bid packages, including material costs, labor estimates, equipment needs, and overhead expenses.
7. Monitor project budgets during execution to support cost control efforts and identify potential overruns early.
8. Maintain organized records of all estimating activities, contracts, and correspondence for transparency and future reference.

Experience

1. Minimum 2 years of experience.
2. Must have experience in underground utility construction, excavation, and shoring. Experience in HDD is preferred.
3. Proven experience in underground utility construction estimating with a strong understanding of construction management processes.
4. Proficiency with estimating software such as Foundations and Procure is highly desirable.
5. Solid knowledge of underground construction site operations, contracts, pricing strategies, and cost control methods.
6. Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively with vendors and subcontractors to achieve favorable terms.
7. Hands-on experience in construction projects across various sectors is preferred.
8. Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple bids simultaneously.
9. Excellent communication skills to clearly articulate estimates and negotiate terms confidently.
