Duties
- Lead and supervise the mechanic team to ensure timely diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of heavy machinery, industrial equipment, and fleet vehicles.
- Oversee the inspection and servicing of fleet vehicles, trailers, excavators, drill rigs, and other specialized machinery.
- Coordinate heavy machinery repairs involving transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, shocks & struts, welding, and electrical components.
- Source parts and supplies needed for the repair shop.
- Manage inventory of parts and tools necessary for repairs; ensure proper use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Maintain detailed logs of repairs, maintenance, purchase orders, receipts.
- Create and manage an inventory system to better organize, track, and streamline the process of checking tools in/out to projects and people.
- Develop maintenance schedules to maximize equipment uptime while minimizing downtime through proactive service planning.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry regulations during all repair activities; promote a culture of safety within the team.
- Daily communication with Director of Operations regarding repair status and recommendations.
Requirements
- Experience managing a heavy equipment service shop and the mechanics.
- Expertise in diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Proven mechanic experience with heavy equipment background; strong knowledge of mechanical diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with heavy equipment operation such as excavators, drill rigs, fleet vehicles; ability to interpret schematics for complex machinery repairs.
- Strong mechanical knowledge across heavy machinery, industrial equipment, tractor-trailers, and fleet vehicle repair disciplines.
- Ability to utilize electrical experience for troubleshooting wiring issues or electronic control modules.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Knowledgeable in computer software for organizing work orders, purchase orders, and tracking expenses.
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting tasks regularly; comfortable working with power tools and performing detailed inspections using schematics.
- 50 hours per week minimum
