Omaha Public Power District Protection Engineer II in Elkhorn, Nebraska

As an Engineer II in Protection & Automation Engineering, you will support this mission by applying your growing technical expertise to safeguard OPPD's generation, transmission, and distribution systems. You'll take ownership of intermediate to advanced protection engineering tasks, contribute to system reliability improvements, and help support the safe integration of new energy resources.
The Impact You'll Have
Strengthen system performance by providing design and application engineering for protection systems across OPPD facilities.
Maintain high reliability by performing detailed relay operation reviews and system outage analyses.
Improve system resiliency by resolving operational or control issues caused by faults or disturbances.
Support clean energy progress by providing engineering for distributed resource interconnections and generation upgrades.
Ensure regulatory alignment by contributing to compliance documentation and system protection standards.
Enhance system performance by evaluating and applying new protection technologies.
Support uninterrupted operations by maintaining availability for urgent technical and professional assistance.
Promote safe work practices by adhering to organizational safety standards and identifying improvement opportunities.
What You'll Bring
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
At least two years of protection engineering experience in substation, transmission, or distribution systems.
Valid driver's license.
Preferred
Co-op, internship, or prior utility engineering experience.
Effective communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Successful completion of the FE exam, or ability to obtain PE registration within six months.

Non-Shift WorkTime Demands:
Essential Position: This position will be required to report to work when business continuity needs are emergent and may be required to work hours beyond an employee's normal shift.
This position must be available for overtime work and callouts as required to ensure continuance of efficient operation.
Work Location:
Office: Work will be performed in a modern office environment amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises.
Field: Work will be performed outside in a wide variety of weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, cold, wind, etc.), terrain, and other natural environmental hazards as well as pollen and other airborne allergens.

Work will be performed in high traffic environments.
Will work around energies high voltage electrical equipment.
Will work in construction areas that present many physical hazards.
Will work at heights.
Physical Demands:
Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
Light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
