NJ Employer Farmworkers and Laborers, Crop, Nursery, and Greenhouse in Elbridge, New York

Plant, spray, weed, fertilize, and water plants including ornamental, perennials, herbs, annuals, hanging baskets, vegetable starter plants, shrubs and flowers using hand and gardening tools. Flowers include lobelia, Alyssum, Marigold- African type & French type, begonia-wax, celosia, pansy, coleus, petunias, cosmos, portulaca, salvia, dusty miller, snapdragons, Impatiens and geraniums and chrysanthemums. Vegetable plants to include tomatoes, peppers, and pumpkins. Transplant and/or pot and label them. Detect the presence of insects or disease by feeling plants leaves and noting their coloring. Operate 75 HP tractors, forklifts, bale busters and other machinery and equipment to fertilize, cultivate, and spray greenhouses and plants. Will operate equipment in farm fields and drive on farm roads. All driving will be limited to activities incidental to working at the business location. Drivers will operate forklifts, tractors and box trucks to move plant material and other supplies around to various locations in the greenhouse/nursery for production and to place in sale areas. Workers must possess or be able to obtain a class D drivers license. All driving or operation of vehicles are limited to those listed in the job description. Inspect plants and bud ties to assess quality. Spray plants/flowers with prescribed herbicides, fungicides and pesticides to control diseases and insects under strict supervision. Dig, cut, and transplant seedlings and cuttings. Move containerized plants, and flowers, using wheelbarrows or tractors. Clean work areas, and maintain grounds and landscaping. Haul and spread topsoil, fertilizer, peat moss, and other materials to condition soil, using wheelbarrows or carts and shovels. Will lift and carry bags of fertilizer weighing up to 80 pounds. Will mow sod fields to maintain quality, Maintain and repair irrigation and climate control systems. Workers must have experience in working with farm sanitary and safety practices as required in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) plans. Employer will furnish to workers, without cost, all tools and equipment required in the performance of the duties assigned. Workers should report for work with their own suitable work clothing. Field temperatures may range from 0 degrees to 90+ degrees F and work may be done in the rain, snow, mud, wind and sun. Due to health and safety concerns relating to pesticide application and the operation of equipment on our farm, workers are required to have the ability to comprehend simple oral and written instructions in English. After hiring, employer may conduct random drug tests at employers expense. Workers referred against this order must have a minimum of 3 months experience in performing tasks described in this order.
