Position Description:

Employees in this classification are responsible for providing professional nursing care in an assigned specialty or sub-specialty clinic. They perform a variety of general and specialized nursing duties as part of a total health care team to provide the patient with complete evaluations. Employees in this position generally assist the head nurse in the supervision of other clinic personnel and may substitute for this person in the event of his/her absence. May supervise and instruct subordinate nursing personnel. Receives supervision from head nurse or physician, functions independently within guidelines. May supervise ancillary nursing personnel in the performance of certain tasks, and assists in training personnel. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • The RN, with a focus on patient safety, is required to function within the parameters of the legal scope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practice setting.

  • The RN is responsible for providing safe, compassionate, and comprehensive nursing care to patients and their families with complex healthcare needs.

  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and support staff to coordinate patient care activities.

  • Monitor patient flow and throughput, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and minimize wait times.

  • Address patient concerns and complaints promptly, striving to resolve issues and improve the overall patient experience.

  • Provide professional nursing care and provide clinical coverage within the assigned area of work.

  • Participate in clinical team care reviews to improve patient care processes and outcomes.

  • Communicate information from management to staff, and vice versa.

  • Foster a positive and motivated work environment, promoting team collaboration, professionalism and high morale.

  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers through prompt response and courteous communication.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

  • Work directly with Human Resources in recruitment and training of new employees; performance management and development of employees; and issuing formal disciplinary action up to and including termination.

  • Maintain currency with all required licensure, certifications, compliances and mandatory trainings, etc. required of the position.

  • Participate in community outreach activities (such as health fairs, community collaborations or outreach clinics) as assigned.

  • May be required to provide cross-coverage for various Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso clinics across locations (Alberta, Transmountain, NE Clinic, Kenworthy, etc.) to ensure operational and staffing needs are met.

  • Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.).

  • Personally demonstrate, display and act in accordance with TTUHSC EP's Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Serve as a Value's leader while actively promoting and encouraging staff across the institution.

  • Perform all other duties to meet the goals and needs of the department as assigned.

  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

  • aRemains current with all licensure, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in both English and Spanish

  • One (1) year experience as an RN working in hospital, ambulatory clinic, or community-based setting.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, written and verbally.

  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively and positively serve as a contributing member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Pay Statement:

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Board of Nursing accredited program of professional nursing or scheduled to complete a program of professional nursing within 120 days of applying for a position.

  • Current Registered Nursing license in the state of Texas or the attainment of a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing to practice professional nursing pending full licensure in the state of Texas.

  • New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX- RN) on the first attempt.

  • No experience required.
