Major/Essential Functions:
Develops and implements a vision for the Center of Emphasis in Diabetes and Metabolism in collaboration with the Department Chair
Develops a strategic plan for growing and enhancing the a) quality, b) visibility, and c) impact of scientific, clinical, and educational programs within the Center, in collaboration with the Department Chair of Molecular and Translational Medicine and the Vice President for Research
Enhances faculty recruitment, maximizes strategic investment of facilities and resources, and fosters the development and expansion of external research funding from national, state and local sources
Builds and sustains an independent, extramurally funded research program and fosters the same for faculty within the Center of Diabetes and Metabolism
Participates in budget development in collaboration with the Department Chair
Fosters collaboration and integrates faculty and trainees around shared interests in diabetes and metabolism research to achieve the Center's interdisciplinary goals
Promotes the Center's research, training, and service missions to internal and external stakeholders
Ensures compliance with the regulations, policies, procedures, and standards of ethical conduct in the planning, conducting, and reporting of research and scholarly activity
Participates in teaching team-taught courses at TTUHSC El Paso
Mentors medical students, graduate students, and post-graduate trainees
Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures
Serves the academic community through participation in institutional governance, such as committee work and other administrative duties
Contributes to the community through academically-related public service complementary to the institutional mission
Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

Demonstrated ability to forge interactions as a team player among clinicians, scientists, and other healthcare professionals
Leadership experience in an academic medical center
A track record of recruiting top talent
Active engagement in relevant professional societies
For physician applicants who wish to engage in clinical practice: Board certification by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties and a full, unrestricted Texas medical license or eligibility for licensure in the State of Texas

Required Qualifications:
M.D., Ph.D., M.D.-Ph.D., or an equivalent doctoral or professional degree in the field of diabetes and metabolism or a related field in biomedical sciences
Experience in teaching medical students and/or graduate students
Record of sustained research productivity in the field of metabolic disorders
Active publication record in high-quality peer-reviewed journals
Track record of sustained success in extramural grant funding
Emerging regional or national reputation
