Bureau of Land Management Maintenance Worker (1039 Temporary) in El Centro, California

Responsibilities Conduct maintenance of recreation and administrative sites including repairs to facilities. Repair or replace roofs, doors, wall surfaces, fences, posts, barriers, signs, bulletin boards, and kiosks. Cleans, sanitizes, and maintains restroom facilities, and other sites, comfort stations, picnic tables, and fire grills, and picking up litter at recreation sites. Fabricates and installs bulletin boards, signs, kiosks. Performs routine cleaning of facilities and grounds. Operates various types of equipment including heavy-duty 4x4 pickups, forklift, mower, motorized weed eater, ATV or UTV, skid-steer loader, and a hydraulic pump. To qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate that you have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job elements: (Screen-Out) Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. (Screen-Out) Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license while employed in this position. Job Element 1: Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc. Job Element 2: Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). Job Element 3: Use of measuring instruments. Job Element 4: Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprinting reading). Job Element 5: Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. Job Element 6: Knowledge of maintenance work related to maintaining grounds, building, and exterior structures. Physical Effort Work requires varying physical activity such as lifting heavy articles, bending, stooping, walking, and dexterity with hand tools. Duty requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring an uncomfortable position. May work on loose uneven and steep side slope terrain covered with rocks, slash and debris are common. Walking outside improved sites is often required to do litter clean up and construct new facilities and trails. Operating vehicles over a long period of time. Hiking over rough terrain with trail crews is periodically required to repair and construct trails. Working Conditions Work performed most of the time is conducted outdoors. Daily temperatures can vary as muchas 40 degrees in one day although temperature change is generally moderate. Summertemperatures often exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
