Genesee & Wyoming Mechanical Supervisor in Edmonton, Alberta

Description

Reporting to the General Manager, the Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for managing employees involved in the maintenance and repair of locomotives for both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will perform the following functions:

  • Supervise mechanical teams and coordinate daily work plans.

  • Manage the work process to maintain locomotive periodic maintenance schedule with the general manager.

  • Assign tasks and monitor progress across multiple locations

  • Manage the decisions concerning repairs and maintenance practices of locomotives.

  • Monitor's locomotive dwell time to maximize locomotive availability for GW owned locomotives.

  • Provide technical support to employees by troubleshooting mechanical issues and equipment malfunctions

  • Ensure that locomotive maintenance files comply with GWCI regulations and current Transport Canada standards.

  • Participate in budget preparation and ensure operations are carried out within financial and operational constraints

  • Manage, coach, and mentor employees while ensuring a safe work environment by enforcing safety policies, reporting incidents, and maintaining compliance with industry regulations.

  • Creates different reports for company management.

  • Hybrid position involving both administrative and fieldwork

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

General Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Railway Mechanical department

  • Flexible in terms of working hours

  • Solid knowledge of Transport Canada regulations related to locomotive operations and maintenance

  • Proven ability to train, supervise, and manage hourly employees effectively

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, database systems, and email communication
