Scope of Job
To manage daily operations related to the digitization, organization, and access of special collections materials. Leads the efforts of the UTRGV Library in digitally preserving the culture and history of the university and the Rio Grande Valley.
Description of Duties
• Creates, organizes, and manages digitization projects from born-digital and analog resources, including various media formats.
• Works with the Metadata Librarian to describe and organize digitized materials.
• Links finding aids to digitized materials using ArchivesSpace.
• Ensures accessibility of digitized materials through appropriate digital platforms.
• Manages web presence related to archival digital resources, including creation of LibGuides.
• Collaborates with external partners (e.g. Texas Digital Library, Digital Public Library of America, local area libraries and museums) to promote discovery of cultural resources that highlight the university and the region.
• Collaborates with key stakeholders to design and implement projects in support of the university’s educational mission.
• Coordinates with curator of the Border Study Archive to digitize materials and make them accessible.
• May supervise librarians and staff, establishing workflows and general direction as necessary.
• Develops the library collection, acting as liaison for assigned academic departments within the university. Recommends the purchase of print and electronic materials necessary to support the academic programs of UTRGV .
• Maintains knowledge of library trends and best practices in academic libraries.
• Works cooperatively with other library departments and supervisors on all UTRGV campuses.
• Serves on library committees and standing university committees as required.
• Participates in continuing education and professional development opportunities (e.g. conferences, workshops, webinars, etc.) as needed to maintain required skills.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Master’s degree from an ALA accredited university in Library and Information Science or Master’s degree in a closely related field (e.g. History, Museum Studies)
Preferred Education
Additional Master’s degree or PhD.
Licenses/Certifications
None.
Required Experience
Two (2) years of experience in digitizing and handling archival materials and/or rare books. Knowledge of metadata standards such as Dublin Core, MODS , METS , etc. Working knowledge of archival and/or digital content management systems such as ArchivesSpace, Archivist’s Toolkit, CONTENTdm, and Islandora.
Preferred Experience
Project management experience. Experience writing and administering grants. Experience with arrangement and description of archival materials. Familiarity with markup programming languages. Knowledge of Texas and Mexican history. Experience in digital exhibition design and/or digital humanities.
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment. Knowledge of how to use scanners and software to save the created images. Knowledge of creating and maintaining web pages.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Other
May be required to work night and/ or weekends. Some travel might be required. Organizational abilities to manage diverse and simultaneous projects. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
