GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES Assists the professional nursing staff in providing basic physical care to patients in a hospital; performs related duties as required. COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES Under direct supervision, the duties are directly assigned and require a minimal use of independent judgment TYPICAL DUTIES
Takes temperatures, pulse and respiration rates.
Performs specific gravity tests to measure urine concentration and hema test to detect blood in the urine.
Bathes, shaves and dresses patients and attends to their personal needs.
Prepares patients for meals and assists with feeding, if required.
Assists with transportation, ambulation, restraining, weighing and disposition of patients.
Measures amount of liquid taken and eliminated for those patients on special liquid diets; collects urine specimens, as required.
Performs simple treatments as assigned.
Prepares post-mortem care.
Maintains patient units and related equipment.
Reports and records information on work assignment. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to learn procedures and techniques involved in administering simple treatments and providing related patient care.
- Ability to perform housekeeping functions as they relate to patients' environment.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain records.
- Ability to develop and maintain patience and tact in dealing with patients. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Training and Experience Completion of eighth grade education
