Key Responsibilities
The Chemist I is an entry-level position critical to our pharmaceutical facility's laboratory operations. Key responsibilities include conducting routine tests, analyses, and experiments and maintaining accurate records of findings. This position entails strict adherence to company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), cGMP guidelines, and commitment to upholding environmental, health, and safety standards.
Reporting Relationships
This position has no direct reports.
This position typically works under direct supervision.
Essential Functions and Detailed Duties
Perform one or more of the following laboratory functions: Analytical Method Validation, Raw Material, Finished Product, or Stability.
Demonstrate basic chemistry lab skills and knowledge and perform duties related to physical and wet chemistry and chemical testing.
Operate basic lab equipment including LOD, ROI, Identification, Water Content by KF, bulk/tapped density, Particle size by sieve & Malvern, Polarimeter, Potentiometer, DSC, FTIR, UV-visible spectroscopy, Dissolution, TLC
Perform critical tests like Wet chemistry testing, dissolution by UV & HPLC
Must be able to complete the following QC Chemistry tasks:
Operate assigned laboratory equipment following the established procedures.
Basic troubleshooting of laboratory results to identify and report findings or next steps.
Perform routine testing and offer experiment support.
Analyze results and document them adequately.
Assist in preparing protocols and reports.
Clean assigned areas or equipment as required.
Perform light troubleshooting, correcting simple equipment malfunctions and identifying routine problems.
Offer suggestions to superiors and follow up on process improvements related to safety, compliance, cost, and productivity.
Maintain accurate laboratory records, forms and other GMP documents.
Ability to train Lab Technicians.
Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and guidelines.
Maintain a clean and sanitary workplace.
Follow applicable safety guidelines while operating the Laboratory Instrument. Must report unsafe conditions, near misses, and/or injuries in a timely manner.
Be able to perform other duties as assigned.
Specialized Laboratory Skills and Knowledge:
Verbal and written communication skills in English
Must complete departmental SOP, GMP, and any required Qualifications.
Ability to work in a team.
Experience and Education
BS in Chemistry or science-related field
Minimum of 1 year of previous chemistry experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands; talk; and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
