Southern Company Technical Project Manager III (LV/MV Switchgear, Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Microgrid) in Durham, North Carolina

Job Summary:
The primary duties of a Technical Project Manager III are to oversee the technical aspects of projects and be responsible for communication, schedule, budget, scope, and completion of engineering deliverables. These projects support our Microgrid offers/solutions such as low and medium-voltage switchgear, switchboards, and distributed energy resources (DERs) manufactured at our RTP and Randleman, NC facilities.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):
Over 10 years of combined industry experience in technical design, electrical construction, and project management roles
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field (equivalent experience will be considered)
Experience within the power industry is advantageous
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Strong analytical abilities to assess problems and develop effective solutions
Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization capabilities
Familiarity with multiple engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and controls
Demonstrated adaptability with the ability to respond positively to cross-functional input and change
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project
Skilled in the use of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) or MRP systems
Preferred knowledge of Bluebeam, Adobe, AutoCAD, and Vault products
Demonstrated soft skills: effective communication (verbal and written), collaboration, problem-solving, and the ability to overcome obstacles
Extensive understanding of functional and departmental processes
Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% annually Job Duties and Responsibilities:
TPM team coordination and supporting Project Management teams to manage respective teams to provide project deliverables
TPM team provides centralized support as a single point of contact between the Production Engineering Team and external project stakeholders
Develop internal design schedules and set milestones for multiple Product Development and revenue initiatives
Coordinate and lead Production Engineering project meetings to communicate scope, schedule, and budget
Monitors and report on overall project statuses to include but not limited to progress, spend, and risks
Support TPM team with close coordination with the Production Engineering Teams for the engineering deliverables of the systems as defined in the project scope, including but not limited to record drawings and product specifications, including as-build drawings
Oversee and support design Reviews on deliverables before release to Manufacturing
Help and drive support and coordinate project submittal drawings and client order confirmation
Establish and set efficient workflows to support the overall performance TPM Team utilization rate
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk and hear.
For the most part, the work environment includes ambient room temperatures, well-lit work areas, and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment. Office environment with shared spaces. Employees will also be required to go to the manufacturing floor to gather information needed to complete the job as necessary.
