The Senior Engineering Technologist position is the fourth level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the career level for the job hierarchy. Senior Engineering Technologists provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work.
Responsibilities
Provides deep technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise,
Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities,
Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches,
Conducts engineering and related studies,
Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance,
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities,
Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills,
Maintains accurate records and files,
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Basic/Required Qualifications (Senior Engineering Technologist):
- Either 4+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 6+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 8+ years equivalent experience without a degree.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology
Has a valid driver’s license
Distribution Design experience with Maximo/BOUD
Experience in distribution utility industry.
Experience using computers
Experience with restoring outages, working outages, or Damage Assessment during storms
Can identify key overhead and underground distribution assets in field
Familiar with protective device coordination
Comfortable working safely in the field and driving as a lone worker
Experience taking photos of outage events and causes
Familiar with outage causes and Duke Energy outage codes
Familiar with how we measure reliability and KPI’s
Experience with Maximo, designing and managing work orders or Service Requests
Experience with DOMS, INLIST, History Editor, PIVision, AMI-Go, OTA, PingIt
Experience with resolving Power Quality issues and Flickering Lights complaints
Experience working with customers and communicating outage issues with the public
Experience working around construction crews and vegetation crews
Working Conditions
