Work Day/Hours: 6:30 am - 3:00 pm Monday-Friday; some evenings, weekends, and holidays required

The purpose of this position is to address daily, ongoing minor repairs and to perform routine preventive maintenance across the City's parks system. It is responsible for maintaining park facilities (examples include but are not limited to: shelters, courts, restrooms and other park amenities such as playgrounds, water fountains, light fixtures, sinks, grills, etc.). Position may also be responsible for minor repairs and routine maintenance for small engines in park maintenance equipment (blowers, mowers, weed eaters, etc.) This is accomplished by overseeing regular and emergency maintenance, responding to customer requests, and making skilled repairs. Other duties may include leading the work of semi-skilled and unskilled workers, getting price quotes, completing special projects and assignments, handling moving requests, assisting with special events and 24-Hour Emergency (On-call) Response.
Duties/Responsibilities
Performs and/or assists with coordinating maintenance operations; installs, operates, and/or repairs vehicles, signs, networks, cameras, pumps, pipes, water lines, and other devices and equipment at assigned facilities or sites; performs skilled plumbing, carpentry, concrete work, masonry, painting, and welding duties; and/or performs preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment, tools, and small engines.
Inspects conditions of equipment, vehicles, signs, cameras, devices, and other materials at assigned facilities or sites; sets up work safe zones and detour routes; directs traffic; and addresses safety issues to detect and troubleshoot maintenance-related issues; and ensures compliance with established safety and operational policies and practices.
Operates light to heavy equipment, to include backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, front-end loaders, rollers, compactors, and paving equipment.
Prepares and maintains reports and records, performs data entry, receives and processes work orders and service requests, using computers and smartphones, and updates work order systems and related databases, to document and facilitate maintenance operations, and ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MIGHT INCLUDE:
Positions assigned to parks, trails, or facilities maintenance may be responsible for:
Maintaining park amenities and facilities (i.e. playgrounds, picnic shelters, spray grounds, bathrooms, etc.).
Making plumbing repairs; repairing underground piping at swimming pools; servicing pumps; and soldering water lines.
Repairing and installing fences
Performing carpentry, concrete or masonry work; painting, welding, sheet-rocking, asphalt repairs, and blacksmithing.
Assisting with HVAC cleaning and preventative maintenance.
Performing preventative maintenance on tools and small engine equipment.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC)
Four years of equipment operation, or technical repair experience in areas related to assignment.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
A valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record is required for: facilities maintenance, traffic control, traffic systems, urban forestry, radio systems, and police maintenance assignments that include driving between multiple facilities and/or locations to perform work or transfer equipment.
Incumbents must complete job related and/or safety training based on assignment, such as (but not limited to) lock out/tag out, confined space entry, ladder safety, respirator and emergency evacuation training.
