Hiring Range: $49,737.00 - $83,866.00

Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Summer Hours 6:00 am - 2:30 pm)

This position is responsible for performing and/or leading skilled maintenance operations for assigned facilities or sites; receiving and processing work orders and service requests; inspecting facility, equipment, and/or vehicle conditions; installing, operating, and/or maintaining devices, vehicles, and other equipment; preparing and maintaining reports and records; addressing safety issues; and performing related duties.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Must have the ability to safely and efficiently load/unload heavy equipment onto trailers and tow equipment to/from various jobsites and/or repair facilities.

  • Performing vehicle and equipment pre/post trip inspections; monitors and replenished fluids; performs basic corrective repairs.

  • At a minimum must be proficient in the operation of: Backhoe, Excavator and Skid Steer

  • Must be able to drive dump trucks on a regular basis.

  • Additional experience in operating Rubber Tire Loaders, Jet Vac Trucks, Track Loaders, Camera Trucks and Motor Graders.

  • Equipment Operator assignments may substitute the camera truck or Jet Vac Truck for one of the above mentioned pieces of heavy equipment identified if the assignment is within the stormwater maintenance section.

  • Performing manual labor on projects by assisting in excavation work by hand digging ditches and trenches; backfilling; compacting and leveling earth to required grade; looping asphalt; setting forms for concrete installation; leveling and brooming concrete; installing brick pavers; construction landscaping.

  • Assisting with traffic control device installation and flagging operations for stationary and moving work zones.

  • Submitting neat and complete written and/or electronic records including times sheets, maintenance history report forms, pre/post trip inspection forms and other cost records as needed.

  • Checking and cleaning basins.

  • Utilizing performance management system to document own work progress and performance.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Four years of equipment operation, or technical repair experience in areas related to assignment.

  • Valid NC Class B Commercial Driver's License.

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Must proficiently operate at minimum three (3) pieces of heavy equipment utilized in assigned section, from the following list: Backhoe, Excavator, Rubber Tire Loader, Jet Vac Truck, Skid Steer loader, Motor Grader and Dump Trucks.

  • Knowledge of DOT traffic laws and requirements applicable to heavy equipment operation.

  • Position designated as a Group 1, meaning it is critical to emergency operations and will report to work in spite of or because of an emergency or disaster event.

  • Subject to stand-by/recall and after hours' work and work during inclement weather.

  • Required to operate service truck and/or dump truck outfitted with plow based upon class of license possessed during winter weather operations.
