Job Title: Maintenance Engineer

Job Description

The Maintenance Engineer ensures the reliable operation of production machinery and mechanical equipment through proactive preventive maintenance, accurate troubleshooting, and effective repair. This role supports a climate-controlled chocolate manufacturing facility by maintaining equipment performance, minimizing downtime, and upholding safety and quality standards through technical expertise, documentation, and collaboration with production teams.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by performing preventive maintenance on tanks, motors, drives, conveyor systems, tempering machines, and other production machines.

  • Follow diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturer instructions, and engineering specifications to perform maintenance tasks and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.

  • Observe mechanical devices in operation, listen for irregularities, and diagnose issues to locate sources of mechanical, pneumatic, or control-related problems.

  • Repair equipment by dismantling devices, removing defective parts, and using hoists, cranes, and a variety of hand and power tools.

  • Inspect used parts with rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments to determine changes in dimensional requirements and assess wear.

  • Adjust and calibrate functional parts of devices and control instruments, including Omron controllers and drives, to restore or improve performance.

  • Control equipment downtime by advising production workers on routine preventive maintenance techniques and monitoring their compliance with these practices.

  • Fabricate and modify repair parts using welding, fabrication methods, and machine shop instrumentation and equipment when needed.

  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock levels, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, and verifying receipt of materials.

  • Use maintenance resources efficiently by selecting appropriate equipment and supplies to complete tasks effectively and cost-consciously.

  • Provide mechanical maintenance information by responding to questions and requests from colleagues and other departments.

  • Prepare and maintain mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information, trends, and equipment performance data.

  • Stay current with technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and building professional networks.

  • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions taken, irregularities observed, and ongoing maintenance needs.

  • Comply with all procedures, rules, and regulations to maintain a safe and clean working environment.

  • Support overall team objectives by performing related duties as needed to ensure smooth and reliable production operations.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • Hands-on experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of tanks, motors, drives, conveyor systems, and production machinery.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical and pneumatic systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical drawings.

  • Proficiency in performing preventive maintenance on mechanical and production equipment.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.

  • Proven mechanical aptitude and strong mechanical reasoning skills.

  • Strong computer skills for documentation, reporting, and reference of technical information.

  • Ability to perform physical tasks and demonstrate good physical dexterity to handle tools, parts, and equipment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and recommend practical solutions.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations applicable to an industrial or manufacturing setting.

  • High school diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Trade certification or graduation from a vocational or technical school in industrial maintenance, mechanics, or a related field.

  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment, preferably within chocolate or similar food production.

  • Welding and fabrication experience to support repair and modification of parts and equipment.

  • Experience using machine shop instrumentation and equipment for fabricating repair components.

  • Familiarity with Omron controllers and drives or similar industrial control systems.

  • Strong communication skills to effectively share maintenance information and collaborate with production teams.

  • Commitment to ongoing learning through workshops, technical publications, and professional networking.

Work Environment

This role is based in a climate-controlled chocolate manufacturing facility, providing a clean, stable, and comfortable work setting. You will work around production machinery such as tanks, motors, drives, conveyor systems, tempering machines, and related mechanical and pneumatic equipment. The position involves regular use of hand and power tools, hoists, cranes, and machine shop instrumentation, as well as interaction with industrial control systems like Omron controllers and drives. The environment follows strict health, safety, and cleanliness procedures consistent with food manufacturing standards, with an emphasis on maintaining an orderly workspace and adhering to all safety rules and regulations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Duluth, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $31.00/hr.
