Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer Level 4 to join our team in Dulles, VA. The preferred location for this role is Dulles, VA. May consider one of the following major Space sector locations: Gilbert, AZ;
Please be aware that this position is contingent upon capturing program award(s) and obtaining and maintaining associated business and/or customer funding. Furthermore, this position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to maintenance at the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
Payload Integration Systems Engineering Control Account Manager (CAM) who will own the responsibility for managing and leading a team of multi-disciplinary engineers, spanning multiple spacecraft subsystems, to meet the product team’s program requirements and deliverables on schedule and within cost. This role has the authority to make engineering project management decisions and recommendations that have an impact on new business, program performance, design, development, and mission operations. This role reports to the Program Manager and works with the program Chief Engineer, Lead Systems Engineer/SEIT Lead, and the Program Management Office (PMO) to deliver on program and stakeholder commitments. This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Act as the single point of accountability for the defined cost account(s) within the payload integration efforts of the program
Perform Earned Value Management (EVM) tasks, including baseline planning, cost/schedule performance tracking, variance analysis, and corrective action planning. Deliver all product team deliverables on time and within cost, while meeting contractual programmatic and technical requirements and stakeholder expectations
Ensure technical quality, performance, cost and schedule for product team content on the program, in alignment with Engineering and Division processes, program policies, and industry best standards
Provide oversight for technical activities involving payload integration design, analysis, testing, and validation for the new ESPAStar spacecraft. Support the development of technical requirements, interface control documents (ICD), and system verification and validation planning
Adhere to the Payload Statement of Work (SOW) and perform rigorous change management in coordination with program leadership
Identify resources, including staffing, required to complete product team deliverables, and communicate the need in a timely manner to enable onboarding of the resources early enough to meet program objectives. Coordinate with Functional Management to staff the Payload SE team
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including spacecraft design, subsystem engineers, analysis engineers, manufacturing teams, Global Supply Chain, Manufacturing & Operations, and program management, to synchronize efforts
Prepare and deliver briefings, presentations, and progress reports to ensure transparency on program milestones
Conduct thorough risk & opportunity management practices including identification, mitigation and realization. Identify areas for cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and technical innovation within payload integration
This position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of professional experience or Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience or PhD with 4 years of professional experience
Requires an active U.S. Government DoD Top-Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope
Experience with at least one phase of the lifecycle of spacecraft development, build, and operations
Risk & Opportunity Management experience and change control experience
1 year of experience in Project Management roles such as Program Manager, CAM, IPT
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey technical and financial information effectively across multi-disciplinary teams.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead efforts to resolve technical and financial issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
2 years of experience in Project Management roles to include earned value management (EVM), Control Account Management, and systems engineering
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation experience and the ability to work seamlessly with a diverse community of engineers
Experience with the full lifecycle of spacecraft development, build, and operations
Active TS clearance with existing program accesses
Communications: The ability to manage communications with stakeholders through organized processes to ensure that department and program information is defined, collected, shared, understood, stored and retrieved in a manner that effectively meets stakeholder needs
Issue & Problem Resolution: The ability to identify and proactively address organizational and program impacts through a systematic, proactive, approach to issue and problem resolution that identifies, communicates, monitors, and promptly resolves conflicts across all levels of the organization.
Program Integration: The ability to identify, orchestrate, coordinate and controls the management activities and processes that integrate program interdependencies throughout their life cycle to achieve successful program completion.
Supplier & Subcontractor: The ability to identify, select, direct and manage subcontract and supply chain elements of the program in a manner that supports program goals and company strategy.

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $213,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
