Position Overview

Reporting to the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, the Dean of the Faculty serves as the chief academic leader for faculty affairs at Clarke University, stewarding academic innovation initiatives, overall academic quality and the quality of teaching practices, shared governance, and faculty leadership development in alignment with the University's mission and BVM Catholic values of Freedom, Education, Charity, and Justice. The Dean provides intellectual leadership, ethical discernment, and operational coordination during a period of institutional renewal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for faculty affairs, including orientation, mentoring, evaluation, promotion, and tenure processes. • Collaborates with faculty to support excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service across the curriculum, to include:

    -Leading continual efforts to foster pedagogical training and innovation

    -Working to systematize professional development in alignment with expectations of faculty evaluation

    -Codifying service and advocating for its value and importance at Clarke University.

  • Facilitates shared governance and serves as a trusted partner to faculty committees under a recently revised committee model. • Oversees assessment of student learning and continuous improvement in the service of student success. The Dean of Faculty will actively encourage and foster new connections and interdisciplinary opportunities across programs and departments. • Guides faculty engagement in accreditation and institutional research efforts. • Champions academic integrity, inclusive pedagogy, and intellectual freedom. • Represents faculty perspectives in institutional planning and change management.

    The Dean of the Faculty integrates Clarke's mission and BVM identity into faculty life, supporting teaching and scholarship that advance justice, compassion, and the common good. The role invites care of and engagement in the university community, and encourages reflection, dialogue, and discernment in the BVM Catholic intellectual tradition while welcoming diverse perspectives.

    Qualifications

    Required:

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in creating a holistic environment for academic and student affairs.

  • Earned terminal degree in an academic discipline.

  • Record of effective teaching and scholarly or creative activity.

  • Demonstrated faculty leadership and service.

  • Strong communication and facilitation skills.

    Preferred:

  • Experience chairing faculty committees or leading curricular initiatives.

  • Familiarity with accreditation and assessment processes.

  • Commitment to mission-centered academic leadership.
