Amazon Senior Sustainability Engineer , Data Center Engineering Sustainability in Dublin, Ireland

Description

As part of Amazon’s Climate Pledge to reach net zero carbon by 2040, AWS is committed to reducing carbon emissions across our infrastructure, and we are seeking a Senior Sustainability Engineer to drive carbon reduction in the design of our Data Centers across our rapidly expanding EMEA portfolio.

As a Senior Sustainability Engineer, you will work closely with the AWS Sustainability team and the Global Design Engineering team to reduce carbon intensity in current and future AWS data centers. You will create mechanisms to identify opportunities for carbon reduction and track their success. Our standard data center solutions are adapted to the many geographies in which we operate and our building materials, structures and equipment are adapted to that local environment, the materials available and the construction techniques and competencies in that market. This provides the potential for specific carbon reduction opportunities on a building by building basis.

We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. • Identifying project/region specific opportunities to reduce carbon on specific builds

  • Propose and develop carbon reduction initiatives to implemented globally across the AWS fleet.

  • Owning sustainability certifications for builds in your region as mandated by building permit requirements or AWS policies.

  • Supporting our public policy teams in engaging with local authorities on sustainability issues.

  • Producing clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, white papers, and reports

About the team

Our engineers have hands-on practical sustainability experience across the project lifecycle — from concept design through construction, commissioning, and handover. You will be relied on as a subject matter expert in embodied carbon, material decarbonization, and sustainability compliance. At Amazon we highly support continued learning opportunities and focus on continued employee development.

The DCE Sustainability team's mission is to advance AWS's goals of net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 and water positive by 2030. We identify the emerging engineering solutions needed to minimize the carbon emissions and water use of our data centers, then work to support their development, scaling, and incorporation into AWS data centers. We are the first point of contact for DCE's partner teams working on sustainability — and we are Senior Leadership's voice on sustainability within the organization.

The broader Data Center Design Engineering team at AWS consists of Architects, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Fire Protection, and Controls Engineers working to design the next generation of data centers. The team is committed to achieving world-class uptime for our customers and strives to develop a fleet of buildings emphasizing security, safety, and efficiency, while finding new ways to meet our growing demand.
