Position Description & Qualifications
Purpose of the Job:
The Senior Financial Analyst provides financial leadership, analysis, and decision support for Serco Canada’s government service contracts. This role is responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, contract compliance, and operational insights that enable strong financial performance and informed decision‑making. The Senior Financial Analyst partners closely with operations, contract management and corporate finance to ensure adherence to internal controls, client contract requirements, and Serco’s financial standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop integrated revenue and cost analysis, projections, reports, and presentations.
Create and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual results and ensure financial information has been recorded accurately.
Assist with the financial planning process, including preparation of budget and forecast data.
Prepare journal entries, accruals, reconciliation, and support other month-end close activities
Prepare monthly variance analysis and reporting commentary.
Monitor open accounts receivable, proactively manage slow payments, and resolve issues preventing timely payment of invoices.
Support accounts payable by reviewing funding, creating purchase requisitions, reviewing and providing finance approval of supplier invoices
Support internal and external audit activities and initiatives.
Ad-hoc reporting as and assist management with other financial issues as required.
Ensure compliance with all Serco internal control procedures and policies.
Qualifications:
A completed university degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is required.
A professional designation is preferred
A minimum of three years post university work experience in an accounting/finance department is required.
A good understanding of Financial Planning and Analysis, including using and maintaining financial models is preferred.
A good understanding of full cycle accounting and cost control, project accounting is preferred but not must.
Advanced skills in Excel and proficient in Microsoft Office
Possession of strong organizational skills and understanding of finance department’s controls and procedures
Strong analytical skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities is necessary.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
Self-starters, capable of working independently with accountability
