Work Schedule: 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Summary:
Responsible for coding surgeries, consults, ER visits for billing purposes. Schedules surgeries and maintains surgical board. The Surgery Scheduler/Coder is expected to act in concert with all employees with one goal in mind: serving our patients effectively. Must manifest a positive and caring attitude at all times, work as a team player, and possess the flexibility to change as needed. This position reports to the Office Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
• Proactively assists coworkers • Participates in ongoing educational activities related to professional issues. • Ensures the 30-day History and Physical and consents are current. If they are not, tasks MA and coordinates additional visit and/or updated H&P to be done prior to anesthesia appointment at the hospital. • Interviews surgical patients, reviews and records patient's history, assures release forms are signed. • Schedules Surgeries, History & Physical and Post Op Visit • Coordinates surgeries with surgeons, OR, registration, anesthesiology • Schedules surgeries day of consult appointment and maintains surgery book • Schedules pre-op appointments for Mayo Women's Health • Ensures Maine care consents are signed at least 30 days prior to sterilization • Schedules post-op appointments in the office • If surgeon needs any type of surgical clearance (i.e. medical or cardiac) ensures that clearance paperwork is received and scanned into system prior to booking • Coordinates testing with anesthesia appointments for patient satisfaction • Goes over prep instructions with patient ensuring they understand prep, diet, and medication restrictions • If poor prep, reschedules surgery and sends new prep instructions • Keeps tickler file for major surgeries (lab work, medical clearance by PCP, medical history for specialty clearance). • Maintains surgical board • Schedules outpatient studies (MRI, EKG, CT Scans, etc.) • If needed for patient satisfaction, coincides pre-op with anesthesia appointments at the hospital • Precerts surgeries, outpatient studies, etc with insurance companies, worker's comp • Checks insurance eligibility • Checks insurance precertification requirements for each patient • Looks up CPT and ICD9 codes for precertifications • Works as part of a team dedicated to maximizing office visits and assuring adequate access for the people we serve.
