Job Description:
Theres never been a better time to explore a future with the City of Dover working in the Electric Department. The City of Dover is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of System Operator I. The primary duties of this position shall be to monitor the water/wastewater and electric SCADA system operations and transmit and receive messages relating to same. This position is responsible for collection of data, scheduling outages, drafting switching schedules, performing switching schedules, record keeping, telephone and radio communications, and dispatching assistance/repair crews. This position will also work under general supervision and independently developing work methods and sequences.
Job Responsibilities
- Monitors/operates the Transmission and Distribution SCADA system and coordinates system status with other electrical companies and external agencies.
- Monitors wastewater stations to ensure proper functioning and coordinates notifications and responses with appropriate departments as required.
- Identifies abnormal operating conditions and initiates appropriate notifications, coordination, and dispatch actions in accordance with established procedures.
- Operates radio, telephone, and other communication systems to transmit and receive operational messages.
- Receives customer calls related to service interruptions or system concerns and prepares work orders and/or dispatches appropriate personnel.
- Coordinates accounting of electric system with major energy company; coordinates emergencies, including environmental, with other agencies as required
- Prepares equipment for sale; prepares contaminated soil and equipment for disposal if needed
- Maintains records/logs for area of responsibility and prepares routine and special reports as required
- Prepares and coordinates switching schedules for the distribution and transmission systems
- Performs related operational and administrative duties assigned.
- Operates on a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, to support continuous 24/7 system operations.
- Position requires flexibility to cover additional shifts when other operators are on planned or unplanned leave, in order to maintain minimum staffing and system reliability.
- Frequent overtime opportunities are available and strongly encouraged, primarily to support shift coverage and continuity of operations.
