Kitchen Manager
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Plans, implements, supervises, and evaluates all programs pertaining to the kitchen. Prepare weekly menus. Responsible for prepping and cooking breakfast and lunch on full Club days. Keeps kitchen equipment, and supplies in order, well maintained, and in the proper location.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Operations & Workflow
Oversee daily kitchen operations to ensure efficiency, consistency, and timely food preparation.
Create and adjust prep lists.
Ensure all recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards are followed.
Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment, enforce kitchen cleanliness and organization.
Food Quality & Safety
Maintain high food-quality standards and ensure consistent menu execution.
Enforce proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures in compliance with health department regulations.
Conduct regular line checks, temperature checks, and cleanliness audits.
Implement and oversee systems for labeling, rotation (FIFO), and waste tracking.
Inventory & Cost Control
Manage food inventory, ordering, and receiving to maintain proper stock levels.
Track food costs, portion control, and minimize waste.
Verify vendor deliveries for accuracy and freshness.
Work with leadership to develop and maintain budget targets.
Staff Leadership & Training
Train and supervise staff on proper kitchen procedures.
Foster a positive, safe, and collaborative kitchen culture.
Ensure all team members understand food safety standards and kitchen procedures.
Follow all Boys & Girls Club of Douglas policies and procedures
· PREFERRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
o High School diploma or GED
o Experience in quantity food preparation and kitchen maintenance preferred
o Knowledge of methods of safely preparing, cooking, serving, and storing food
o Knowledge of the uses of kitchen utensils and equipment and their operation thereof
o Ability to work independently and cooperatively with other staff
o Ability to follow oral and written instructions
o Ability to prepare various foods
o Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
o Ability to interact with children & youth in a manner that conveys warm regard, respect, and care
o Ability to tolerate medium-to-high levels of noise
o Must pass background check and drug test before employment
o Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
HOURS: 5 hours per day during school year (1PM-6PM)
8 hours per day during summer and full days (7AM-3PM)
PTO:
Employees are eligible for Personal Time Off (PTO) after 1 year of employment. The employee's PTO after one year of employment will be 24 hours to use in that calendar year. Any unused PTO will be forfeited at the end of the calendar year -- it is not eligible for rollover.
INSURANCE BENEFITS:
Employees are eligible for dental, and vision benefits effective the 1st of the month following the hire date. BG Club will pay 100% of Dental, Vision and Life Insurance for employees only, Additional coverage, vision and dental will be paid by the employee if the employee chooses to add dependent coverage.
401K BENEFITS:
A 401(K) Safe Harbor Retirement Plan is available on the 1st day of the month after 1 year of employment and has accomplished 1,000 hours withing the year of service (based on initial start date with BGCD). At that time, BGCD will contribute 3% of gross wages to the company's 401K plan and the employee may also elect to contribute to their 401(K) and will be vested.
