Job Title: Janitorial Worker – 2nd Shift (Industrial Facility & Cleanrooms)

Job Description

This 2nd shift janitorial role is a physically active position responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized industrial facility, including offices, hallways, cleanrooms, staircases, storage rooms, restrooms, and a café. You will perform routine and specialized cleaning tasks, with a particular focus on cleanroom environments that require strict procedures, specific protective equipment, and scheduled deep-cleaning activities.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain multiple areas of the industrial facility, including offices, hallways, cleanrooms, staircases, storage rooms, restrooms, and the café on a weekly basis.

  • Perform general janitorial tasks such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and replacing trash bins throughout the facility.

  • Operate a backpack vacuum to clean floors, corners, and hard-to-reach areas efficiently and safely.

  • Use a floor scrubber to clean and maintain hard-surface floors, as needed, following all safety and equipment guidelines.

  • Follow strict cleanroom protocols, including suiting up in a body suit, glasses, and hood before entering designated cleanroom areas.

  • Clean cleanroom countertops and floors using sterile mops, buckets, and appropriate cleaning solutions to maintain required cleanliness standards.

  • Participate in scheduled cleanroom “Purge” events, including weekly purges for countertops, monthly purges for walls, and quarterly purges for ceilings.

  • Replace sticky mats located in front of cleanroom doors to help maintain contamination control.

  • Clean café areas, including microwaves, refrigerators, countertops, and other high-touch surfaces.

  • Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and correctly, following all posted instructions and safety data sheets.

  • Post wet floor signs and other safety signage to prevent slips, trips, and falls while cleaning.

  • Work primarily independently to complete assigned cleaning tasks, while also collaborating with partners when needed for larger or more complex projects.

  • Move between facility floors using staircases, transporting cleaning equipment and supplies as required.

  • Adhere to all dress code and personal appearance requirements specific to cleanroom and facility standards, including restrictions on makeup, perfume, nails, and jewelry.

  • Maintain reliability and consistency in attendance and punctuality, ensuring all assigned areas are cleaned within the scheduled shift.

  • Communicate any maintenance or safety issues observed during cleaning to the appropriate contact so they can be addressed promptly.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of professional cleaning, janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, or related experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform core janitorial duties such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and trash removal.

  • Comfort using a backpack vacuum for extended periods while moving throughout the facility.

  • Willingness and ability to wear full cleanroom protective equipment, including body suit, glasses, and hood, as required.

  • Ability to work safely with cleaning products and equipment, including proper use and placement of wet floor signs.

  • Dependable, consistent work habits with strong attendance and punctuality.

  • Positive attitude and professional, cooperative demeanor when working independently or with partners.

  • Comfort working without makeup, perfume, artificial or long nails, and jewelry, in accordance with cleanroom and safety standards.

  • Ability to work the 2nd shift schedule from 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime.

  • Physical ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, lift, and carry cleaning equipment throughout the shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience operating a floor scrubber or similar floor-care equipment.

  • Previous experience cleaning in industrial, laboratory, or cleanroom environments.

  • Familiarity with safe chemical handling and proper storage of cleaning supplies.

  • Ability to follow detailed cleaning schedules, checklists, and written procedures.

  • Openness to working in the role for up to 6 weeks, depending on business needs.

Work Environment

You work inside a modern industrial facility with two floors that include laboratories, office spaces, restrooms, storage areas, and a café. The role is primarily independent, though you may partner with colleagues to complete larger or more demanding cleaning tasks. The schedule is 2nd shift, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the possibility of 0–5 hours of overtime as needed. You move frequently between areas and floors using staircases while carrying or using cleaning equipment. The environment includes specialized cleanrooms that require full personal protective equipment, such as body suits, glasses, and hoods, all of which are provided. All cleaning equipment and protective gear needed for cleanrooms and general facility work is supplied. The dress code includes closed-toe shoes and khakis or other neat, professional pants, and cleanroom standards require no makeup, perfume, artificial or long nails, or jewelry while working in controlled areas.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dexter, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
