General Summary
Under general supervision, the Vascular Ultrasound Technologist performs a variety of vascular diagnostic procedures utilizing ultrasound and vascular physiologic testing equipment, as ordered by a physician. This role functions in accordance with department protocols and standard operating procedures, while exercising independent judgment and critical thinking to support accurate diagnosis and high-quality patient care.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Performs vascular ultrasound and physiologic studies on arterial and venous systems
Utilizes Doppler and related technologies to evaluate blood flow and identify abnormalities
Prepares patients for procedures and explains exams to ensure comfort and understanding
Accurately captures, reviews, and documents diagnostic data for physician interpretation
Maintains equipment functionality and ensures proper use of imaging technology
Adheres to established department protocols, quality standards, and safety guidelines
Collaborates effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams
Provides patient-centered care aligned with organizational values
Education / Experience Required
High School Diploma or GED required
Completion of an accredited ultrasound or vascular technology program preferred
1–2 years of vascular ultrasound experience preferred
Certifications / Licensures Required
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) – ARDMS
Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) – CCI
OR registry-eligible at time of hire
Additional Requirements:
RVT or RVS certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire
BLS or Heartsaver CPR AED certification required upon hire
