Essential functions (job duties):

The Department of Accounting at Wayne State University’s Mike Ilitch School of Business is seeking to fill a non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor – Teaching for Fall 2026.

  • Teach 4 (per semester) undergraduate/graduate courses

  • Manage assessment and Student progress with a Learning Management System (Canvas).

  • Maintain and adapt curriculum that is current, effective, and appropriate to course and program competencies. Instruct students in a classroom, online, and/or hybrid setting.

  • The selected candidate is also expected to be an actively engaged member of the Mike Ilitch School of Business community.

Qualifications:

Desirable education and experience:

  • Those with a PhD in Accounting will be considered for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor – Teaching. Those with another graduate degree will be considered at the rank of Instructor-Teaching. A CPA or other relevant professional certification is highly desirable.

  • A minimum of three years of accounting teaching experience, including at the graduate level, is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with a clear commitment to supporting student learning and development.

Expected duties and responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate accounting courses, maintaining faculty qualifications in accordance with AACSB standards, and actively participating in teaching-focused service.

  • Flexibility in teaching areas, including financial, managerial, and taxation fields, with in-person and online teaching formats. The experience of teaching governmental and non-profit accounting is highly preferable.

  • Management of learning activities at the college level and contribution to initiatives that support the program’s growth and mission. Mentoring students is also an essential component of the role.
