About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Renewable Energy Project Manager to lead the successful execution of renewable energy capital projects. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the project lifecycle from scope development and engineering to construction, commissioning, and closeout.
Qualified candidates will have experience with substations.
This is a hybrid, contract position. Must be local or willing to relocate to the Detroit, MI area.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive project scopes and lead cross-functional teams in preparing schedules, cost estimates, and engineering specifications.
- Oversee the complete project lifecycle: design, installation, testing, commissioning, and final closeout.
- Manage project budgets and ensure cost-effective procurement of labor, equipment, and materials.
- Coordinate bid meetings, vendor selection, and contract strategies aligned with labor utilization plans.
- Lead daily on-site construction activities, ensuring timely delivery within budget and compliance standards.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all internal and external stakeholders, ensuring transparent communication and stakeholder alignment.
- Liaise with internal departments, plants, suppliers, unions, and service providers.
- Analyze and mitigate project risks and ensure safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance.
- Secure required regulatory approvals for construction and operation of new renewable projects.
- Mentor junior project managers, engineers, and co-op students.
- Track and report on performance metrics including scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following educational and experience paths:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction/Project Management, or Business
- 6 years of project management experience including:
- 2 years with large-scale construction or utility projects
- *6+ months experience *in renewable energy (wind, solar, energy storage)
- Associate degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or Project Management with 8 years of related project management experience, with same breakdown as above
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP Certification (Project Management Professional)
- Experience with utility-scale renewable energy projects
- Proficiency in Primavera P6
- Strong data analysis skills for tracking project KPIs and metrics
- Proven experience presenting strategies and updates to senior leadership
- Comfortable leading diverse, multi-disciplinary teams across complex projects
