Honeywell Principal Engineer/Scientist – Integrated Air Purification in Des Plaines, Illinois
This role will be based in Des Plaines, Illinois, USA and responsible for technical direction within our Advanced Tech portfolio with the main accountability of leading the development of life support technologies for space, marine, and terrestrial applications. In this senior level role, you will lead a global cross-functional team to provide technical direction on a variety of projects and programs and define product roadmap with business/engineering groups. You will be the point of contact for external customers. You are expected to proactively engage their business team, support customer technical queries and meetings, and ensure project deliverables are met.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide technical direction and oversight for Air Revitalization and Air Purification programs across Honeywell sites within the US and internationally, including CO 2 Removal, oxygen production, catalytic transformations, and trace contaminant removal with portfolio value of >$100M
Define technical roadmap and align with product roadmap, and elaborate portfolio vision to leadership
Seek new business opportunities and identify disruptive technologies to ensure low Technical Readiness Level (TRL) technology ideas are generated and integrated into the pipeline to achieve TRL6 and transition to development/commercialization
Responsible for developing low TRL technologies with customers through delivery of qualification and production to meet platform requirements
Partner with engineering program office to provide program direction that meets customer financial and technical metrics
Manage technical risk and generate mitigation plan as needed
Mentor team members to develop requirements for and test methods to validate components and subsystems for Air Purification for flight, marine, and/or terrestrial applications.
YOU MUST HAVE
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
More than 8 years of experience in developing technologies for CO 2 and contaminant removal and electrochemical and/or catalytic transformations
Proven records in product delivery with customers
Extensive experience in securing government fundings, such as NASA and/or DARPA

PhD degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering
Experience leading cross-functional international engineering teams
Demonstrated ability to foster strong relationships with commercial and government customers
Strong understanding of fundamentals of adsorbents, sorbents, catalysis, R&D background and track record of developing new CO 2 /contaminant removal technologies for commercial applications
Expertise on ionic liquids, separation technologies, catalysis, coating materials and processes, chemical characterization, laboratory chemical process design
Ability to develop & deliver high impact presentations both internally and externally including effectively managing the customer interface.
Action-oriented, self-starting approach with ability to decompose overall goals into detailed action plans
Proven track record of technology development through patents, publications, etc.
Technical experience with expanding roles of leadership and accountability
Highly enthusiastic with a commitment to excellence
Possessing the sense of urgency and drive to achieve results
Track record of meeting technical, schedule and budget commitments
Work effectively across geographic and cultural boundaries
Able to positively influence others, and resolve conflicts quickly and tactfully
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The annual base salary range for this position is $173k - $216k. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. This position is incentive plan eligible.
