Overview

The masonry worker performs tuckpointing, repointing, grinding, and brick repairs on residential and commercial buildings while laying brick, block, and stone as needed. This role repairs chimneys, parapets, and masonry walls, operates masonry tools and equipment safely, and works as part of a team to deliver high-quality craftsmanship. Responsibilities

  • Perform tuckpointing, repointing, grinding, and brick repairs

  • Lay brick, block, and stone for residential and commercial projects

  • Repair and rebuild chimneys, parapets, and masonry walls

  • Operate masonry tools and equipment safely (grinders, mixers, scaffolding, lifts)

  • Mix and prepare mortar, grout, and concrete

  • Assist with concrete pours and finishing when needed

  • Follow OSHA and company safety standards on all job sites

  • Work as part of a crew to complete projects efficiently

  • Maintain high‑quality workmanship and clean finishes

  • Assist with material handling, site cleanup, and general labor tasks

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of masonry or tuckpointing experience preferred

  • Experience with brick repair, repointing, and grinding

  • Ability to lay brick, block, and stone accurately

  • Knowledge of mortar types and proper application

  • Comfortable working at heights and on scaffolding

  • Able to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical work daily

  • Skilled with masonry hand and power tools

  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail

  • Commitment to safety and OSHA compliance

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with concrete construction, including concrete pours and concrete finishing.

  • Familiarity with grout mixing and application for masonry installations.

  • Experience with general construction labor, installation, and site preparation.

  • Ability to use trowels and other finishing tools to achieve clean, professional results.

  • Willingness to learn and be trained in additional masonry techniques and methods.

  • Experience working as a tenured mason or supporting experienced masons on complex projects.

Work Environment

You spend much of the day on your feet, lifting materials, working at heights, and performing physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions. The typical workday is about seven hours, with full-time hours during the busy season, and you are expected to follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate protective gear on site

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Des Plaines, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
