Principal Financial Group Senior Associate Investment Accountant in Des Moines, Iowa
What You'll Do
We’re looking for a Senior Associate Investment Accountant to join our Investment Accounting team. In this role, you'll be responsible for performing investment accounting and reporting activities across various investment strategies and asset classes. This position collaborates with asset management and servicing, portfolio managers, investment operations, risk, compliance, tax, internal/external auditors, and technology teams to support robust reporting and control practices.
Investment Accounting & Financial Reporting
Perform intermediate-level investment accounting activities, including analytics on property financials, trade capture, income accruals, valuation, and basic consolidations for various asset types including equities, fixed income, and basic structured products
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
Contribute to internal management reporting and assist with external reporting requirements
May apply U.S. GAAP and Statuatory principles and ensure compliance with basic regulatory requirements
Work with senior team members to understand accounting implications of investment strategies
Project Management & System Implementation
Participate in system testing and implementation projects
Help develop automated solutions for reporting and reconciliations
Conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) and document business requirements
Compliance, Controls, and Risk Management
Execute established internal control procedures
Support risk mitigation strategies
Prepare and organize audit documentation and reconciliations
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Business Support
Coordinate with other teams to ensure accurate treatment of investment data
Provide basic technical guidance on accounting impacts of investment vehicles
Perform routine analysis related to investment performance and reporting
Continuous Improvement & Strategic Insight
Keep current with accounting standards and regulations
Suggest improvements to existing processes

Who You Are
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent work experience required
Minimum of 2 + years of relevant accounting experience in financial services preferred
Working knowledge of common investment products and strategies
Experience with investment accounting systems(PAM) preferred
Proficient in Excel; knowledge of basic reporting tools
Excellent communication and analytical skills
Detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
This position may require successful completion of a criminal background check
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$73150 - $99750 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers an in-office and hybrid (blending at least three days in a typical workweek) work arrangement in Des Moines, IA.
