    Job Title - High School Band Director

    Reports to - Building Principal

    Position Purpose

    Under the general supervision of the building principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district and state approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment at school; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals. Facilitator, conductor, and organizer of our Band.

    Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all performances

  • Conducts rehearsals

  • Oversees set-up and tear-down of the performance area

  • Coordinates needs of facility for performances and rehearsals

  • Organizes and supervise trips and off-site performances

  • Recruits student-musicians for ensemble

  • Develops appropriate repertoire of music

  • Researches and organize music selections

  • Develops skills of student-musicians

  • Develops and administers district and state approved curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.

  • Promotes an on-site classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and to student learning.

  • Communicates learning goals to students and parents/families.

  • Develops lesson plans to maximize learning opportunities in the classroom in order to meet the needs of all learners.

  • Creates learning opportunities aligned with district standards and goals.

  • Designs learning activities that utilize technology in a meaningful way.

  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and differentiates instruction to meet individual student's needs.

  • Conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.

  • Provides meaningful feedback to students within a multi-tiered system of supports.

  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

  • Establishes a classroom environment that is fair and promotes learning.

  • Organizes and maintains accurate records, grades, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

  • Encourages parental/family involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents/families.

  • Displays positive interactions with students, staff, and families.

  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within the grade level and department, to evaluate and assess curriculum.

  • Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.

  • Administers standardized assessments in accordance with district testing policies.

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other district office administrators as designated by the superintendent

  • Coordinates, oversees and conducts Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band and Concert Band.
