Job Title: Material Tester
Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals for the role of Material Tester. This entry-level position offers on-the-job training for construction candidates interested in field work, focusing on quality control by testing construction materials such as soil and concrete. This role is primarily field-based, ensuring that construction sites meet building plans and specifications.
Responsibilities
Conduct field testing and sampling of construction materials such as concrete and soil.
Perform field inspections of reinforcing steel (rebar) and masonry.
Ensure compliance with building plans and specifications.
Work independently, spending 90% of the time in the field.
Drive to 3-4 job sites daily, performing quality control tests.
Communicate effectively with team members and project stakeholders.
Utilize basic math skills to analyze and interpret test results.
Essential Skills
Experience in construction labor or material testing is advantageous.
Basic math skills, including addition and subtraction.
Effective communication skills.
Attention to detail and commitment to quality control.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in field testing of soil compaction and concrete.
Knowledge of geology related to construction materials is a plus.
Willingness to work long hours during the summer.
Ability to lift and carry a 50-60 pound wheelbarrow frequently.
2 years of tenure in previous work history.

Work Environment
This position is 90% field-based, with the work environment primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions. The role involves visiting multiple job sites each day, often before construction begins, with a landscape of dirt and concrete.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of DES MOINES, IA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
